B&H Store Settles Job Bias Lawsuit for $4.3M
New York, NY – B&H electronics retailer in New York City has settled a job discrimination lawsuit on behalf of 149 Latino warehouse workers for $4.3 million.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said today a federal judge in Manhattan approved the settlement.
The federal agency had accused B&H of paying the Manhattan and Brooklyn workers less than other workers, and denying them promotions and health benefits because they were Latino.
The EEOC plans to monitor B&H for five years.

Doesn’t mean they did anything wrong. It could have cost the company that much in attorneys’ fees just to prove it is innocent.

Milhouse
They did nothing wrong; on the contrary, they were doing a mitzvah. They were favouring yidden over goyim, in hiring and promotions, and l”a when laying people off. That is a mitzvah. We are responsible for each other, and it is natural that if you’re looking to hire someone and a family member needs a job, you hire him. If you have to lay someone off, you do it to a stranger and not to your brother-in-law. If your relative is struggling, you give him a raise, even if you wouldn’t have given it to him had he been a stranger. This is how we MUST treat every yid, and this is how B&H was conducting itself, until the government stuck its nose in. Now, unfortunately, they must treat their own people as if they were strangers. In the latest round of layoffs, they were careful to fire some yidden; that means there are now yidden without work, for no other reason than this lawsuit. Is that a good thing?

To Milhouse:
Would you be fine with a group not hiring Yidden simply because they prefer to hire Catholics, Muslims, whatever? If we should prefer to hire fellow Jews than we cannot object when others refuse to do so.
Also, consider Dinah d’Malchusa Dina. While it is a complex topic it is not one to be ignored simply because we feel like it.

To Milhouse, isn’t it equally important to follow the Law of the Government, that is a Torah Obligation as well. I’m sorry, but it is never right to wrong another individual (Jew or not). What they did is a chilul Hashem, just like Rubashkin did w/the meat plant. As Yidden, we have an added responsibilty to set an example. Non-Jews see Jews do something wrong, and it gives them an excuse to speak and do ill-will towards Yidden.
