Third Suspect Found Guilty in Timoshenko Murder

NEW YORK [WABC] — A jury has convicted Lee Woods, the third suspect on trial for the murder of New York City police officer Russel Timoshenko.

Woods was convicted on charges of aggravated murder, aggravated attempted murder, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Woods, 29, was the last of three men tried in the July 2007 shooting in Crown Heights that killed Timoshenko and wounded his partner during a routine traffic stop.

The suspects were caught with a stolen SUV and with illegal weapons in the vehicle. Woods was the driver.

“This was a just verdict for a horrendous crime, and I hope it brings some measure of peace to the Timoshenkos who have demonstrated such fortitude as they waited patiently for some measure of justice in the wake of their son’s murder.” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

Dexter Bostic was previously convicted of aggravated murder and attempted murder days after his co-defendant Robert Ellis was acquitted on those charges. He was convicted on the weapons possession charges.
