NEW YORK, NY [NY1] — The Department of Environmental Protection is warning homeowners about people posing as city employees to make money.
The imposters pretend to be workers or contractors of the DEP.
Officials say the fakes usually travel in pairs and claim they need to check the pipes or collect money for overdue water bills.

NEW YORK, NY [NY1] — The Department of Environmental Protection is warning homeowners about people posing as city employees to make money.
The imposters pretend to be workers or contractors of the DEP.
Officials say the fakes usually travel in pairs and claim they need to check the pipes or collect money for overdue water bills.
So far, five instances have been reported on Staten Island. The most recent was on December 29th.
In all of the cases the victims were elderly.
The agency’s website reminds homeowners DEP workers are required to wear a uniform, carry a city-issued identification with them, and never ask for cash.
