NEW YORK, NY — The NYPD says it can’t afford to hire 1,067 extra cops but it does plan to hire 200 traffic agents to write $61 million worth of tickets.
Traffic agents are empowered under a new law to write summonses for drivers caught “blocking the box” at intersections.
At $115 a ticket, the traffic agents would generate some serious revenue for the city, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.
come on
theyr’e everywhere- nuts. you forget to put your car back after 1:30 and you’re 5 minutes late- you get the ticket for double parking. give me a break- go walk down the streets of further blocks- wehre more problems…and take care of crime. stop charging us for listening to the law and then moving your car few minutes late. they’re too yekish!!
bring in more money
if the city wants to make more money thay should make the fine for not cleaning up after your dog twice how much it is now, and also have some plained clothed cops (or sanitaition workers whoever gives out those tikkets) give out the tikkets it would bring in more money and have a CLEANER NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
frustrated
to come on, forget about a ticket for double parking, yesterday we came in for a wedding from out of state, and first we got a $45 ticket for parking on the street, (caroll) then we moved the car (double parked) and came out at 1:45 , remember we are not from ny and did not know the rules, so we come out and I say where is our car? well they towed it. yup. they towed it, plus gave us a ticket of $115. so 45, 115 and 185 for the towing.
so we came in for the day and spent it searching for our car at the tow pound.
welcome to ny.
now i know why i don’t live there.
is there any way to fight the tickets?
abe
And probably all 200 will be assigned to CH.
Let’s see:
New tolls on the East River bridges.
Higher real estate tax.
Higher car registrations.
Higher subway fares.
Higher water bills.
Soon we will have to start making bricks!
I say let my people go!!
Where? That’s the problem.
WHY - WHY - WHY - WHY
I can’t believe it I’m so upset and so angrey why mrs bloomberg are you doing it why do you add more traffic people we need more police to guard our town and city and why don’t you instead just give more tickets and more tickets and even more tickets this is so upseting and we must do something to stop this this is really creazy since all he wants is money
Eli
What is the city going to do with the extra money
Is it going to use it to improve the quality of life in NYC
3rd Term
Good going King Bloomberg…it’s moves like these that will keep you from getting that third term as mayor.
Grandfather
Good. Idiots who can afford to block the box will bring the city much needed revenue. I hope they put a fine on drivers who choose to sit on the crosswalk as well. I don’t think there is such a thing as extra money when talking about city revenue, especially since we cannot look to the state and fed this cycle for much. And to “come on”, no thank you; we don’t need more police, more services/programs and funding, but not more police.
