BDE: Rabbi Schmul Osher Begun, 65, OBM

With great sadness we report the passing of Rabbi Schmul Osher Begun OBM, a dedicated Shliach in São Paulo, Brazil who dedicated himself incessantly to the education of Jewish youth and the construction of community life. He passed away over Shabbos, the 12th of Tishrei, 5786, following an extended illness.

He was 65 years old.

For decades, Rabbi Begun poured his heart into the Jewish community of São Paulo, Brazil, serving as the principal of the Lubavitch Cheder. He opened his home to countless guests, has given his life and passion towards Jewish Education for decades, and inspired so many families through his warmth, charisma, and artistic soul.

He was recently diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor and the Chabad came out to support him and his family.

He is survived by his wife Raya (nee Levenhartz), and children; Mrs. Feigy Lapidus (Argentina), Mrs. Chani Feldman (Crown Heights), Simcha Begun (Crown Heights), Mendy Begun (Crown Heights), Dovi Begun (Miami, FL), and Mrs. Etty Labkowsky (Los Angeles, CA).

The Levaya will take place Sunday, passing by 770 at approximately 12:00pm, with Kevurah at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 1:00pm.

SHiva will take place in Crown Heights at 501 Montgomery St. side door. Sunday from 5:00pm to 10:00pm, and Monday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
