TRAGEDY: Bochur Struck and Killed by a Train
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — At 4:00 this afternoon a terrible tragedy befell our community when HaBochur HaTomim Yisroel Noach ben Chaim Ezra Yibadel L’Chaim Tovim Tzfasman was struck and killed by a train this afternoon. Frightened subway riders called 911 and Hatzalah after witnessing the terrible incident.
Trains were backed up in both directions as a result and many commuters were forced to wait until Chesed Shel Emes completed their work and the MTA restored the train service.
Hatzalah, Shomrim and Chesed Shel Emes thanked Deputy Inspector Frank Vega, commanding officer of the 71st precinct for his efforts and making sure that all agencies gave the proper attention to the Jewish laws requirements of this situation.

I think what we should be asking is WHAT ARE WE DOING TO MAKE SURE MORE SUCH TRAGEDIES DON’T HAPPEN?
Yes we need to daven, yes we need moshiach, but YES we also need to wake up and face realities around us, and DEAL with them. Acknowledge them instead of denying/hiding from them and then CONFRONT them.
I am not purporting to know more details than there are, I only know that ACTIONS WILL SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS. So yes, communally and individually we must increase in good actions, but we must also increase in PROACTIVE actions to work with the individuals in this community – every single person, every single neshoma should be accounted for.
May the family be comforted in their sorrows by the community improvement that will hopefully result.
Community = KOL YISROEL AREIVIM ZE LAZEH.
This is a communal tragedy that should be felt on a very individual level!

Some things are better left unsaid.

a heavy rock that a person can pick up by himself is only 1/3 of the weight of a rock which he can lift if others are there to help him. this incident should , at the very least, inspire us to help each other, with their pekkels. with emes and with a good heart. hashem yerachem. from now on there should be only simchas for the family and for everyone else too! Hamkom yenachem eschem bisoch sheav aveili tzion veyrushalyim.

"some things are better left unsaid" is what leads to some things never being done…to change things, for the better.
some things are painful to hear, but words can bring change. change is a good thing, esp. at times like this, esp. during Elul.

we are so sorry. baruch dayan haemes. we are crying. we need Moshiach now. Hashem don’t you hear everyone crying out to you? Each one of us is saying enough! We will work even harder on ahavas yisroel.
Kpin
I agree with you Chaya’le about the part where things need to be done, but not always do you need to hear terrible things to pick up and change the world…or our little Crown Heights…sometimes yes obviously it effects you more to do better, but it shouldn’t have to come to that.
Condolences to the family.
Chayale
Kpin – you are correct. but the fact is that it unfortunately HAS come to that. And now we need to do our part to show G-d we don’t need any more such tragedies to instigate change.
It is an unfortunate nature of the world and in particular Jewish history that true change most often occurs after a downfall of some sort.
Bottom line – this has been a downfall for the community. Many people are reeling from the tragedy; those that knew him, or know the family, and even those that only have heard about it.
One thing many people in frum communities don’t ‘love’ is the way many mind eachother’s business. And i could not agree more. But things like this remind me that there is a good way to mind eachother’s business. Not in a yenta way, but in a truly caring, concerned way. We should all realize that Ahavas Yisroel/Tzedoka means more than just offering help/friendship to those in clear need. It means really looking out for others the way we’d want them to look out for us. Even if we weren’t crying out in pain…
May there be no more!

WE NEED MOSHIACH NOW!!!!!!!!!!!
FOR HOW LONG CAN THIS GO ON!!!?????
boruch dayn haemes
boruch dayin haemes. the news is very sad and overwelming. we cry ad mosai. but it still is reality. i think that in zechus of an aliyas neshamah every person reading this should take that responsibility and do just one simple thing right now to bring moshiach. to get off the computer even though its hard and reach out to another. may we only hear of simchos and good from now on. moshiach now!!
till when??
AD MASI??????? AD MASI???? AD MASI!!!!!!
Something being done.
Just as part of this conversaiton.
If Im not mistaking last year at the Kinus hashluchim they announced they were goning to develop a helpline to help adivise members of anash and shlucim.
Kpin
I agree. I agree.
I hope things change, one day…I hope we don’t have to Chas V’sholom wait for the next horrible thing to occur and wake up and change the world because of it…!
And about the helpline…it should have happened already!
chayale
Not sure what they meant by a helpline at the convention, but yes – along those lines, there should be a helpline that people can call into anonymously. Parents, teens, kids, everyone.
It need not be a local line – I am sure there are even Jewish/frum helplines out there already in existence. Or if there are not Jewish/frum ones, there are most definitely city ones. I think the biggest start would be for those services to be PUBLICIZED.
– Perhaps the community council (or whichever community service wants to be the first to take immediate change upon themselves!) should print postcards that can be placed on the counters of all local grocery stores (and obviously they do not only need to say ‘if YOU need help’ but rather ‘if you or someone you know needs help’ – so that any potential embarrassment be avoided) and then go on to list numbers, etc.
– Another idea – same type of ads can be posted in the bus shelter displays. there are plenty of other random ads that are not as important/updated featured there. Large ads like this on Kingston show that it is normal for everyone to need help at some time. especially anonymously. there are too many community (greater community) stigmas associated with needing help, that is the first thing that needs to be changed. It is normal to need advice, and sometimes from people who are not close to us. what’s NOT normal is to have to go things alone and harbor burdens that can potentially become fatal.
Hopefully some people who have the necessary clout in this community to make any changes are reading this forum. If they are not, perhaps someone can forward it to them…
(Clearly I am highly perturbed by the events, which is why I am compelled to keep talking here… I think it is healthy and others should offer practical ideas too..)
