BDE: Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Shaikevitz, 61, OBM
With great sadness we report the passing of Rabbi Moshe Shaikevitz OBM, Shliach of the Rebbe in Milan, Italy. He passed away on the 5th of Cheshvan, 5781.
He was 61 years old.
Born in 5719 to R’ Dovber and Rivkah Shaikevitz of Kfar Chabad, Israel, Moshe grew up among the Chassidic greats of the Chabad village. Learning in Chabad yeshiva’s throughout his childhood, he ultimately came to Crown Heights to learn by the Rebbe.
Reb Moshe married Soshi, daughter of head shluchim to Italy Rabbi Gershon Mendel and Bassie Garelik, and in 5748, they moved together to Milan, Italy where they established a Beit Chabad in memory of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka.
A Shliach for 32 years, Rabbi Shaikevitz would go on to establish schools and camps for the local Jewish population.
He is survived by his wife Soshi, and their children: Zalman Shaikevitz (Kyiv, Ukraine), Levi Shaikevitz (Milan, Italy), Meir Shaikevitz (Rome, Italy), Chezi Shaikevitz (Crown Heights), Shmulik Shaikevitz (Milan, Italy), Leibele Shaikevitz (Milan, Italy), Sholom Shaikevitz (Milan, Italy), Chana Heller (Crown Heights), Mrs. Freidel Wilshansky (Milan, Italy), Mrs. Chaya Mushka Schtroks (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Heni Gurevitz (Villeurbanne, France), Mrs. Shaina Simpson (Crown Heights), and Brochi Shaikevitz (Milan, Italy), and grandchildren.
He is also survived by his parents Rabbi Dovber and Rivkah Shaikevitz. The family requests that his parents NOT be informed of their son’s passing.
