Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Rabbi Abraham D. Hecht OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Abraham Dov Hecht this Motzai Shabbos, he was 90. He was a very active Rov in the USA, and particularly in NY, and also served as the president of the Igud HaRabbonim.

He was a very active Rov in the USA, and particularly in NY. He was born into Brownsville as a second generation American, who arrived in Poland, in September 1939, to study in the Yeshivah of Otvosk under the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe. A few days later, as the tanks started rolling across Poland, he managed to leave.

He was president of the Igud HaRabbonim (Rabbinical Alliance of America) for many years, and served for over 40 years as the Rabbi in Congregation Shaarei Tziyon of the Sefardi-Syrian community in Brooklyn. He was 90 years old. His wife Liba passed away a number of years ago.

He is surviving by his Children: Nechama Kantor (Crown Heights), Esther Kaplan (Crown Heights), Rabbi Eli Hecht (Chabad of Lomita, S.Cal.), Rabbi Yossi Hecht (Nice, France), Rochel Weinberg (Detroit), Shani Fasten (5 Towns), Rabbi Shea Hecht (Norwalk, CT), Rabbi Ari Hecht (San Francisco, CA), and Rabbi Yisroel Hecht (Los Angeles). Sons-in-law: Rabbi Mattis Kantor; Rabbi Nochem Kaplan; Rabbi Avrohom Weinberg; Rabbi Naftal Fasten.

Oldest grandson is Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor (Thailand), and many of the grandchildren are spread all over the world, including Toronto Canada (Rabbi Mendel Kaplan), in California, Florida, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Skokie (IL), Montreal, and Lugno (Switzerland).

The Levaya will take place tomorrow, Sunday, and will be leaving from Shomrei Hadas at 11:30am, it will then Proceed to Congregation Sharay Zion, were he served as Rabbi for over 50 Years, and it will then pass 770 at around 1:30pm.
