Kingston Avenue Fixture Passes Away Friday Night

A Kingston Avenue fixture passed away Friday night. Myles Rappaport, was a common sight sitting on a milk crate and collecting charity near 770, he was 72 years old.

Originally born in Brooklyn to Louis and Mae Rappaport in 1942, Rappaport went on to obtain an advanced degree in finance and accounting. While living in Florida he made some poor choices and was incarcerated for an extended period.

After his release he returned to New York and later to Crown Heights where he became a fixture on Kingston Avenue and in 770, always soft spoke and collected charity.

While in Crown Heights he resided in the home of Mrs. Faigy Jacobson on Lefferts Avenue where he passed away on Friday night.

Chessed Shel Emes was alerted to his passing and reached out to CrownHeights.info in an effort to find out if anyone has information about Mr. Rappoport. They asked that they be contact at (718) 436-2121.

Why mention negative information about Florida. What is the relevance for this obituary?

    • Crown Heights Resident

It’s necessary for everyone to know he was a criminal in jail for an extended period of time. & had criminal friends. So we should be careful if we speak to any of his friends.

  • To No 3

The negative comments were to explain why he couldn’t use his accounting degree and earn a normal living! It is difficult for people to hire him or someone like that without causing trouble to their own business!

  • Trying to track down

his family or someone who knows his family. If you have info please contact Chessed Shel Emes at (718) 436-2121

I had the pleasure of knowing Myles for only a few months and found him to be very polite and he cared about people. He and i spoke quite a bit and i enjoyed his company. No one should care about someones past, this comment about Florida was absolutely uncalled for.
I will miss him. He held a special place in my heart. May he rest in peace. As I use to say to Myles, “from your mouth to God’s ears”. Thank you for being a friend.

His Hebrew name was Moshe. He was always friendly, intelligent and smiling. I was shocked when I once saw him crossing the street. I had no idea he was disabled because I always saw him sitting. Yet there he was dragging one leg. He passed away on Friday night. Figures, because he will go straight to Gan Eden. He bore his suffering like a champ…hidden ly and secretly. The Rebbe was and is with him.

  • I agree

I agree with number 3. It was unnecessary to mention something so negative in his past. Baruch dayan emes.

  • Myles Rapaport - A gute neshoma

I got to know Myles over the past three years. We talked and always had good conversation. We became good friends. He was soft spoken, very intelligent and had a really good Yidishe hartz!

I’m almost certain he told me his name was Moshe (it a shame that I can’t remember for certain if he had a second name).

We have to always remember that the — Yidden — who come around 770 have a Neshoma just like we. It is a zechus for them and our community to be kind to them and treat them just as we would like to be treated.

Myles, was just the rest of us and was a highly intelligent and talented individual. May his Beshoma have an Aliah, whoever can please make an effort to go to his Levaya. It’s the true Chessed Shel Emes!

May we be zoiche to the Geulah Amitis vhashlaima now! V’kitzu vranenu Shochnei ofar – vhu bsoichom.

Myles, we will miss you and will always remember your beautiful smile.

  • # 15 The Torah also wants us

to be nice to the other people like him who aren’t as charming as he was.

I’m not chas Vshalom saying anything bad about him but we have to get to know all the people collecting money and treat them nicely to.

The levaya for Myless (Moshe) Rapoport will pass by 770 tomorrow morning at 11:00. And the kevura will be at the Beth David cemetery in Elmont, NY.
