Boruch Dayan Ha’emes: R’ Yechezkel Lewintow, OBM
With great sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Yechezkel Lewintow, OBM, of Crown Heights, at the age of 86.
Reb Yechezkel arrived in the United States from the Soviet Union shortly after the Rebbe assumed his leadership, and was a faithful Chossid ever since.
He is survived by his son, Yisroel Dovid.
The levaya will take place Sunday, departing from Shomrei Hadas at 10:00am and passing 770 at 10:45am.
MAy he have an aliyas neshama

Moshiach NOW
Baal Shemsker Yid
“Chatzkel Der Geller” as he was affectionately known, was the embodiement of a Baal-Shemsker-Yid in the plain and full sense of the word.
When you look in the early years of the Rebbe’s leadership you will find him in many pictures very close to the Rebbe, especially in the Sefer Mekadesh Yisroel (the album of pictures where the Rebbe was Mesader Kidushin).
He never considered himself anybody special, he kept to Yidishkeit with Mesiras Nefesh in Russia, and he did his best to keep up in America.
Reb Chatzkel would make sure to attend all Shiurim that he possibly can, and he would even take as a Chavrusa a young boy if needed, just so that he could do his Chitas and other Shiurim.
He never considered himself a great scholar or a big Mashpia, but you would always see him sit and listen to Shiur or listening to a Farbrengen. He also held Farbrengens in his house for Bochrim so he would have a chance to listen in to a Chasidisher Mashpia share words of Chassidus, and if you were lucky he would share some of his own fascinating memories from Russia and the early years by the Rebbe.
He must have left a large collection of pictures, video’s (8mm films) and audio recordings (reel to reel) that are of great value. I hope all this won’t get lost, and will be preserved for the benefit of the Chabad community and Chabad history.
He was a lonely man and we should all go give him his last honor and learn some Mishnayos in his memory.
I’ll miss him.
A old time neighbor.
Devastated
A baal Shemsker Yid. A varimer yid.A goldene neshomo. Always doing chessed for others. He had people who went through his home and lived in his home for months and years till they were able to stand on their own feet. Chazkel and Frayda ran a hospitable home, with always home baked mezonos ready for visitors.
May he have a lichtigun Gan Eden.
Is there a shiva?
WHO IS SAYING KADDISH FOR HIM?
sr
Very quiet, humble man. Never knew what a tzaddik he was.
a shul member
i davened with him in shul every shabbos
yes a true baal shem yid,
simplistic yet authentic
i remember times he was at shiurim in shul, with who ever, he asked down to earth questions, so simple real honest questions,
at first we thopught it was foolish, but thinking of it afterwards, yeah it was as “REAL AS CAN BE”
I HOPE HE WASNT OFFENDED BY IT, I ASK MACHILAH FROM HIM,
a yid you dont find much around anymore.
he had almost nothing begashmiyus, vrey plain very simple,
its those simple things that count most,.
you will be missed. :(
