Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Mrs. Gittel Gansburg, 86, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Gittel Gansburg OBM, wife of Reb Itchke Gansburg OBM and a resident of Crown Heights. She was 86 years old.

Originally from Kfar Chabad she moved with her husband Reb Itchke to Crown Heights in the late 1980’s. She was known as the ‘dorm mother’ in the Machon Chana dorm on President Street, and cared for the physical well being of thousands of girls who passed through its doors over the years.

She is survived by her children Mrs. Nechama Chanin (Crown Heights), Rabbi Yossi Gansburg (Toronto, Canada) and Mrs. Shaina Frada Brod (Kfar Chabad, Israel).

She is also survived by her brother, Reb Yoel Kahn (Crown Heights).

The Levaya will take place tomorrow, Friday, and will be leaving from Shomrei Hadas at 10:00am and passing by 770 at around 10:30pm

  • So saddened by this news

Mrs Gansburg was a source of enormous support and strength for decades in the dormitory at Machon Chana. A true chassidista, she dedicated her life to helping others and working for the Rebbe’s cause. She brought the Rebbe’s message to thousands of Baalei tshuva with clarity. She was the epitome of bringing someone close to the Rebbe and then stepping out of the way. I will miss you dearly, Mrs Gansburg.

Our sincere condolences to the family of a truly humble and special lady – whose fine qualities are reflected in her dear children.
May they continue her legacy – each in his and her own unique way – in the spreading of chasidus and the bringing of Moshiach, now!

    Shalom Ber and Frida Schapiro
