Tragedy in Eilat – 3 Bochrim Killed on Way to Mivtzaim

The tidings of the tragic event in Eilat has shocked and bewildered Chabad communities in Israel, shocked at the results of the fatal accident claiming the lives of three Chabad bochrim on their way to mivtzaim in Eilat. Additionally, four other bochrim were hurt at the Tsichor – Eilat intersection. One of the injured bochrim was flown to the Soroka Hospital in Beer Sheva and had managed to speak to his parents before he was operated on.

DETAILS OF THE CASUALTIES:

■ THE TOMIM LEVI HENDEL, A’H, OF MIGDAL HAEMEK, 14 YEARS OLD, STUDENT OF SHIUR ALEPH OF TOMCHEI TEMIMIM IN LOD, SON OF RABBI YISROEL YOSEF HENDEL, RABBI OF THE CHABAD COMMUNITY OF MIGDAL HAEMEK. HIS LIVAYA IS TAKING PLACE TOMORROW IN MIGDAL HAEMEK.

■ THE TOMIM YONATAN BITON, A’H, OF ASHKELON, 17 YEARS OLD, STUDENT OF TOMCHEI TEMIMIM IN KIRYAT GAT. YONATAN,A’H, AN DHIS FAMILY ARE PART OF ANASH IN ASHKELON. HE WAS A FORMER STUDENT OF CHABAD INSTITUTES: TOMCHEI TEMIMIM OF NACHALAS HAR CHABAD AND TOMCHEI TEMIMIM OF LOD AND OF KIRYAT GAT.

■ THE TOMIM MOSHE GOLA, A’H, OF YERUSHALAYIM, 17 YEARS OF AGE AND STUDENT OF SHIUR ALEPH OF THE TOMCHEI TEMIMIM YESHIVA OF KIRYAT GAT, SON OF MRS. DANIELA GOLAN, DIRECTOR OF THE ‘OR CHAYA’ ACADEMY IN YERUSHALAYIM. HIS LIVAYA WILL SET OUT AT 11:00 O’CLOCK FROM THE SHAMGAR BURIAL HOME IN YERUSHALAYIM.

COL learned that the bochrim had been in the city since Friday and were busy with mivtzaim. This morning the eight bochrim set out to IDF posts in the north of the city where the accident occurred. Chabad House director, Mendy Klein said that they rode in a vehicle topped with a large menorah. Soldiers who anticipated their arrival at the army base set out immediately to the site of the accident.

Conditions of the Injured bochrim

Four lightly wounded – are being treated in the local Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat. Some were diagnosed with fractures. Some of the parents flew in to Eilat to visit their wounded sons.

The wounded bochrim at the Yoseftal hospital whose condition is relatively light are the tomim Zushe Neimark of Lod, the tomim Moshe Yitzchak Hecht of Eilat, the tomim Avrohom Pruss of Lod. The fourth tomim, Aaron Turjeman, student of the Chabad yeshiva of Eilat is being treated for limb injuries in the Soroka Hospital of Beer Sheva.

Causes of the Accident

A police investigation indicated that the driver of a commercial truck heading towards Eilat, lost control near the Shizafon Army Base, digressed from the road and turned over in a trench near the road. Firemen alerted to the scene rescued some of the injured persons who were trapped in the car. Traffic Commander in Eilat Ami Oshpitz said that the reason for the truck drivers loss of control is not yet clear. Policemen were shocked at the sight that reminded them of a terrorist attack, with pieces of metal scattered around and the damaged vehicle that turned into a complete wreckage. “This is a sight I will never forget”, he claimed.

Two of those who were injured are students of Shiur Aleph of Tomchei Temimim of Kiryat Gat and others – of Tomchei Temimim in Lod. The bochrim arrived to Eilat on Thursday to do mivtzaim. This morning they set out to IDF posts in the north of Eilat – where the accident took place. Four – were lightly wounded and driven to the Yoseftal Hospital and most of them were released to their homes although some were diagnosed as having fractures.

The lightly injured bochrim at the Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat are the tomim Zushe Neimark of Lod, the tomim Moshe Yitzchak Hecht of Eilat and the tomim Avrohom Pruss. The seriously wounded bochur flown to Soroka hospital is the tomim Aharon Turjeman a student of the Chabad yeshiva of Eilat.

A MADA squad of the Negev provided first aid to the wounded people, three of whom they declared – dead. Police arrived to the arena of the accident to determine the circumstances leading to the accident.

    Remember that the term “lightly wounded” is more serious than it sounds. I know that the injured have more than just broken limbs.

    Yidden, Open your eyes… see the message that Hashem is sending us! All these series of horrific tragedies aren’t a result of out strict adherence to the torah and mitzvos rather the opposite. Strengthen yourself, the grass may look greener on the other side ( the way of the world; goyim) but it is not and it hasn’t brought any good to bnei yisroel just awful tragedies. Stop being so obsessed and busy with norishkeit. Make yourself busy with Torah and mitzvos and keep the Jewish faith alive… and all the souls of the innonecent of bnei yisroel alive. Always remember: Kol Yisroel Areivim Ze L’ze. We are all responsible for one another.
    -May we see the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days….

    Unfortunate news. What a loss of beautifull life. 3 Bochurim doing the Rebbes Shlichus. May they join the Rebbe immidietlly!!

    Just a reminder of things you can do to minimise injuries or death whilst in a motor vehicle; ALWAYS wear seatbelts and say teffilas haderech. Alternate drivers before you get fatigued, and be aware of your surroundings 360 degrees. Finally SLOW DOWN!!

    All of the above comments go for me as well. Its so important to do alot of deep Ahavas Yisrael and teshuva in the names of these tomim. Ahavas Yisrael like the kind these young tender boys did….for the simple and uneducated people. Love your neighbor, not just the “high profile” and well known people. Love the shy, old, troubled……love them all like how these young boys did when they were on mitvtzoim.
