Boruch Dayan Emes! She was SUCH a nice lady! Always smiling and looking to do something nice for another. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and giving them to new mothers. May her memory be for a blessing………..

She was my baby sitter over thirty years ago.I still remember her telling me that she remembers when crown heights was a farm with cows roaming around. She told me that the whole area was woods and down the hill, today Lefferts ave, there was a a small pond/stream with water where the animals went to drink. Those were the days.
she was a special person with a special Neshoma, who truly cared about another’s welfare.
May her Neshoma have an Aliya and she should be a gute beter.

TO OUR DEAREST NEIGHBOR, BESSIE,
BASYA BAS DEVORA’S FATHER’S NAME WAS YEHUDA. WE WILL MISS YOU SORELY BUT LIFE GOES ON AND WE MUST HAVE YOU IN OUR MEMORIES ALWAYS AD BIYAS GOEL HAMOSHIACH WHERE SHE WILL SCREAM OUT WARMLY WITH HER JOYFUL SMILES AND MEANINGFUL JOKES UP THERE TO BRING THE MOSHIACH & HELP US DO THE RIGHT THING AS THE REBBE ASKED OF US HIS CHASSIDIM. I HAD THE ZECHUS TO REMIND HER TO COME TO ALL THE TIMES SHE NEEDED TO SAY YIZKOR FOR HER PARENTS. SHE SAT AND CHANTED THE PRAYERS IN ENGLISH AS SHE WAITED DILIGENTLY IN OUR BASEMENT SHUL, RABBI GELERNTER’S. SHE ENTERTAINED HER NEIGHBORS EACH WEEK AS SHE WAS INVITED FOR MANY YEARS FOR THE SHABBOS MEALS. I ENJOYED HER COMPANY WHENEVER SHE DECIDED.SHE WAS A DEVOTED MOTHER TO HER DAUGHTER, ETHE, AND HER SON ARTHUR, REGARDLESS OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES SHE WENT THROUGH WITH HER NISOYON HASHEM PUT HER THROUGH WITH HIM. SHE VISITED HIM OFTEN. SHE KEPT UP HER RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. THANKS FOR THE WARM BLANKETS SHE GAVE FOR MY CHILDREN TO CHERISH AS A SPECIAL HEIRLOOM AND GAVE ME FOR MY HUSBAND’S DAUGHTER, FAIGEL, SHE CARED WARMLY WITH HER JOKES FOR ALL THOSE PEOPLE SHE MET THROUGHOUT HER LIFE TIME.
A SPECIAL THANKS TO HER WONDERFUL HOME ATTENDANT, VERNICE, WHO WORKED WITH HER AND PUT UP WITH HER “MISHEGASIN’ AND WAS SUCCESSFUL IN HER FIRMNESS TO HELP HER WITH HER PHYSICAL NEEDS AS A DEVOTED WARM WORKER FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. IT SAYS ‘HASHEM NOSAN VE HASHEM LOKACH’ AS EACH PERSON FULFILLS THEIR TRUE MISSION HERE IN OLAM HAZEH.MAY SHE REST IN PEACE NOW WITH HER CHARLIE UNTIL THE BIYAS GOEL HAMOSHIACH NOW AS THE REBBE ASKED OF US TO DO WHAT IS NEEDED FOR OUR TORAH HAKEDOSHA TO DO. LET’S ALL POSITIVELY MAKE ONE CHANGE EACH IN THE MANY ASPECTS SUCH AS TZNIYUS & KABOLAS SHABBOS, KIBUD AV V’EM, ETC. TO HELP SPEED UP THE MOSHIACH NOW!!!
Does anyone know
Does anyone know how to contact her children ? I’m sure they would be grateful to hear about how the Crown Heights community has so many fond memories and deep feelings about their Mother.
Good neighbors
Bessie is the only babysitter I remember from my childhood. She used to come over with her knitting bag and books every time she came. She was a devoted babysitter and a good neighbor. She always screamed “hello” to me from her porch and she never forgot my childhood nickname! Bessie lived on Crown Street when the houses were first built and she had many interesting stories about the neighborhood. She will surely be missed. May we merit the coming of Moshiach immediately so we can be reunited with Bessie and all our loved ones.
Crown St.
I grew up on the block with Bessie and she babysat for me and my siblings. Of course, as soon as she noticed that someone was expecting, she began crocheting a blanket – usually in pastel rainbow colors so it would be suitable for either a girl or boy.
Bessie told us that her father built the house she lived in. She knew the history of many of the Shuls in Crown Heights (and pointed out to me churches that had unfortunately been bought from shuls as the neighborhood changed – one on Troy Ave. near Union St. among others) She remembered when Eastern Parkway had cows walking along it. She told us about the original telephones – you picked up the receiver and were connected immediately to an operator who had to dial the number for you.
Although Bessie had her share of Tzoros, she had a sense of humor which kept her going! May she enjoy her place in Gan Eden.

I remember seeing Mrs. Rosen walking her dog all the time. She was very kind.
