Chanchi was my daughter’s first grade teacher. My daughter is graduating high-school but still talks about her first grade teacher, Mrs. Brook. What a devoted warm ,dedicated teacher she was. We never took you for granted. We Want MODSIACH NOW
Friends Forever
The first time I too met Chanchy, was in Sem in Yerres, France. Aside from agreeing with everything #22 has written about her, I have my own personal story to add… Upon arriving to Sem I became very good friends with the “Americans” including Chanchy/ Fraidel, Rochel שתחיוetc. We spent so many good and especially FUN times together which helped pass the difficult months in a strange land with even stranger food and customs.
They made us laugh until we cried and then some more! Melave Malkas and Yomim Tovim were special with Chanchy and her gang. Every time they received a package from home, they were sure to share generously with us. Memories of that year are very fond and pure.
The friendship lasted throughout the years, even when we weren’t in touch for great lengths of time. We were always able to pick up where we left off!
Having come from a home that was only able to provide basics I came to Seminary with few and extremely simple clothing. Being the sensitive person she was, Chanchy realized that I wore the same thing week after week, and generously and with little fanfare, presented me with one of her Shabbos outfits to keep. She made me feel so comfortable about it that I wasn’t even embarrassed. In truth, the outfit was big on me, but I was so thrilled to have something so pretty, that I tucked it in here and there, and wore it to “pieces”, until I began to work and was able to afford buying my own clothing.
May her wonderful family find comfort in their time of sorrow, and Moshiach should come already and return the wonderful person that Chanchy was, to her rightful place- back in our lives! For now she will continue to live in our hearts, minds and souls.
