    R. Wenger was a real powerhouse in our city. a man of iron. indispensible. It’s hard to believe…so sad for the family and community.

Rabbi Wenger was a great person. My family has gone to his shul since it opened all those years ago. I was also lucky enough to have him as a teacher in Bais Rivkah. Last time I saw him, I was eight months pregnant, going for a check up in the hospital and I bumped into him and his Rebbitzen in the elevator. He was obviosly not doing well, but he made a point of smiling and asking me how I was feeling. He atteneded my l’chaim when I got engaged many years ago, and danced with all the other men around the table even though he was sick. He was one of the best things that ever happened to Montreal. He will be missed. Please learn a little bit of halachah today in his memory, it’s what would of made him happy. And could someone also tell me where his family will be sitting shivah?

I just exchanged some correspondence with Rabbi Eliezer Wenger zal about the laws of itar yad yemino according to the Alter Rebbe and the Tzemach Tedek. He related that he spoke to Rabbi Bistritzski of Tzfas zal about it, as the latter wrote on the topic.

Rabbi Wenger was a powerhouse in halacha and warm mensch.

I remember him from the days in Miami Beach. When a shaliach in Eisham wanted him to leave to go there and be the principal of the schoolo, the local head shaliach wrote the Rebbe: “We need him too much here”.

Aiberster, we need him too much here.

He was a very special man and someone who I admired greatly and looked up to.
I used to go to his Shul every Shabbos afternoon to Chazer a Sichah and noticed that he was dearly loved by his congregants…
In addition to being a Talmid Chochom he was also a Vareme Mensch.
