Thousands Don Tefilin at Israel Day Parade

At yesterday’s Israel Day Parade on Manhattan’s 5th Avenue, dozens of young Chabad volunteers gave thousands of revelers the opportunity to put on Tefilin, receive Shabbos candles and sign up for JNet, among other forms of outreach.

The effort was spearheaded by the Mitzvah Tank Office, led by Rabbi Mordy Hirsch, in collaboration with Chabad of the Upper East Side, led by Rabbi Ben Tzion Krasnianski.

The volunteers recounted that well over 2,000 Jewish men put on Tefilin (almost 100 of them for the first time in their lives), over 700 purchased a letter in a Sefer Torah, over 5,000 received Shavuos guides, close to 1,000 received Shabbos candles and over 400 signed up for Jnet – an international ‘Chavrusa’ network for Torah study.
