Despite Heat Wave Released Time Goes On!
On Wednesday, the first day of Shavuos, 200 Bochurim headed out on foot to more than 50 Public Schools to conduct the weekly, Wednesday, Jewish Released Time Program of Greater New York under the auspices of NCFJE.
The Bochurim reached public schools on the far ends of Brooklyn and Queens, distances of over 16 miles, causing them to walk for as much as 3 hours each way. There, they gathered the public school children as done every Wednesday.
The children then walked as opposed to being transported like on other Wednesdays, to nearby Shuls. At one School, the principal himself joined the bochurim and children on their walk to the Shul. At the Shuls, the bochurim formed special minyonim to enable the children to hear the Aseres Hadibros.
Following the children then enjoyed Shavuos foods such ice cream, blintzes, and chocolate milk. Over 500 children participated in the Released Time Shavuos program. One parent attending the program was so inspired that he decided to send his child to a Yeshiva next year. The Released Time Program would like to thank all the Shluchim for opening their home to host the Bochurim for cooking meals for them for Yom Tov.
A Yasher Koach to the shuls, for allowing the Released Time Program to take place in their facility and for allowing the Bochurim to use the sefer Torah. And to the devoted Bochurim, for walking over on Yom Tov just so that even just one child will be able to hear the Aseres Hadibros which had a tremendous impact on the children, and even greater a great big Kiddush Hashem.
