  I didn’t realize Rabbi Raichick was a Shliach. The posision of Chabad of California is that Rabbi Cunin was the first Shliach to the West Coast.

  Rabbi Raichik was appointed as ShaDaR of the Rebbe Rayatz and the Rebbe. Rabbi Raichik was the ultimate shaliach.

  Uh, nice try. Raichik was here before Cunin was out of diapers. The Frierdike Rebbe sent him in ’48.

  His #1 issue was sholom and ahavas yisroel!
  Bashing cunin even when deserved is not how he taught us to live, and please respect his memory by writing only positive comments, esp. about a fellow shliach

  Rabbi Raichik was a wonderful man who did a lot of mivtzoim. That being said, R’ Cunin built shlichus in CA. You can’t compare the Cunin sons to the Raichik sons. Cunins are leading shluchim in remote places like Malibu, Pacific Palisades and Beverly Hills. The Raichik kids are anash living in Hancock Park!

  The Kinnus took place on the 4th floor of 788 Eastern Pkwy. Meals were served in the building that now houses the Kollel on Kingston Ave.

  Cunin went to LA in ’65 on Merkos shlichus – He liked it so much, he, (not the rebbe) “decided” that he, (cunin), should be “sent” there permanently.
  He went there after he got married in ’66.
  What happened between ’48 and ’66?????

  Let’s NOT discuss the Cunin sons. Too many people have too many things to say about them. It’s Lashon Harah/Richilus. At a time like this when young people are dropping like flies we do not need more animosity & sinas chinam in this world.

  For the record (in case you didn’t get it) Rabbi Raichick was a shliach of the Frierdike Rebbe. R’ Cunin was, at best, a toddler when Rabbi Raichick was sent to California.

  Rumor has it that SDR once complained to the Rebbe about BSC’s shlichus tactics (bringing hippies to the Chabad House, etc.) and the response was that if you–SDR–want, he–BSC–can be sent back to NY immediately. SDR clearly knew what was best for CA, and chose to keep the effective, albiet slightly nutty, BSC.

  Rabbi Raichek ZY”A was a uniqe Chosid (Shadar of the Fredike Rebbe). His krias Shma Shel Al Hamita would take a whole night, mivtzoyim non stop, His midas Chassidus in all aspects were extrodinary respected by the whole community(not just Lubavitch).
  Rabbi Cunin a shliach appointed by the Rebbe helped build the moisdois in California. The trail Blazer of moisdois Chabad of California.
  You don’t need to compare any person even Lihavdil the secular world could tell you this(look at 7 traits in successful people)
  Putting it in simple terms. Rabbi Raichek Zechuso Yogeain Alainu was mashpiya of Chabad of California. And when Rabbi Cunin Yebadel Lechaim Tovim Aruchim joined California he became Menahel( Most moisdois were made from scratch) moisdois chabad in california.
  All of their children(Cunins & Raicheks) are special and unique individuals in their own unique way.

  I can’t belive the comenters are comparing Rabbi Raichick ZY’A with Cunin. One was a true chosid and tzadik and the other is a business man who enriched himself and family turning chabad into a “for profit” entity. I love the coment about the remote outpost of Malibu etc.. The Raichick children doso much good in a quiet way. Levi single handily helps more people in a week than all the Cunins do in a year.

  Rabbi Boruch Shloima Eliahu Cunin is a great person.
  I know him.

  Both had/have meseras nefesh for the Rebbe AND both were very attached and dear to the Rebbe.

  By the way, I have met Rabbi S D Raichik only a few times, and was most impressed by his sincerity, humility and his avoidas hatfilloh. A rare sight seen today.
