Two British-Israeli sisters from Efrat, Israel— 20-year-old sister Maya Dee and her 15-year-old sister, Rina—were identified after Shabbat as the victims of a brutal terrorist shooting in Israel’s Jordan Valley on Friday. The shooting left their 48-year-old mother, Lucy, in critical condition on a respirator at the Hadassah Ein Kerem intensive care unit after undergoing emergency surgery.
The public is asked to pray for the recovery of Leah bat Tziporah.
The United Kingdom Foreign Office confirmed Friday that the victims were British nationals who made aliyah to Israel from England a few years ago. The sisters’ funerals are set to take place at the Kfar Etzion cemetery on Sunday afternoon after family members arrive from the United Kingdom.
The Gush Etzion regional council said the procession would begin at 4:15 p.m. in Efrat. Mourners would then march to the Kfar Etzion cemetery, where the sisters would be buried at 5 p.m.
“Residents are asked to stand with flags on the side of the road and accompany them on their final journey,” the statement said.
More than 22 bullet casings were found at the scene of the attack after terrorists shot at the car in a drive-by shooting. After the car crashed, the terrorists’ car approached the vehicle and took careful aim at the victims before turning and driving away.
The victims were headed for a vacation in Tiberias when they were attacked. Their father was driving in a separate vehicle ahead of them with other family members and returned to the scene after rescue efforts had started.
Authorities are continuing an extensive manhunt in the Jericho area.
In a separate incident, a tourist from Italy was killed and seven others visitors were injured when a 45-year-old terrorist rammed his car into people strolling on a promenade near the seashore in Tel Aviv.
The victim was identified as Alessandro Parini, a 35-year-old lawyer from Rome. The other victims were tourists from Italy and the United Kingdom. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed her solidarity with Israel following the “cowardly attack” in Tel Aviv.
