First Ever Orthodox Jewish Player Drafted In NBA History

by CrownHeights.info

It’s a historic moment in the history of the NBA.

Yeshiva University star basketball player Ryan Turell was drafted by Motor City Cruise, the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons as the No. 27 overall pick in the G League 2022 draft. He is the first ever Orthodox Jew drafted into an NBA League.

“Being the first Orthodox Jew in the NBA would mean the world to me, and a dream come true, God willing,” Turell told ESPN in March. “But, just as importantly, it would mean the world to others that never saw this as a possibility.”

According to ESPN, Turell averaged 24.0 points per game in four seasons, finishing his college career with 2,158 points despite having two seasons shortened by COVID-19.

Incorrect headline and facts . #1 he was not drafted into the nba, he lost that. He was accepted to a farm team of the nba. #2 Dovid Kufeld, also a YU grad was actually drated by the Portland Trailblazers in 1980 and turned it down due to shabbos.

He stated that he would play on Shabbos if he could walk to the game from his hotel.
He needs to ask a Rov about this.
