Jewish Developer Snaps Up Sullivan County Project Approved For 2,600 Homes

For Mordechai Halberstam of Chesnut Ridge, the $13.3 Million price tag was a steal for the fully approved 2,600 home development abandoned in 2014.

According to reports, Halberstam made the purchase from Double Diamond Companies, which aftyer beginning construction, was forced to abandon the project due to lack of interest.

The project that was slated to create the massive gated community had just got off the ground, having installed some water and sewer lines and roads, but having built not a single home or the 18-hole golf course that it was expected to have. Only about one mile of the roughly 35 miles of roads that was planned for the giant property was completed.

The plans for the new community are not expected to change, according to Halberstam, with the first phase of construction to build 400 homes. The project is planned to be completed in seven phases, and could take up to 20 years to complete.

With the new purchase, the question of what will be with the project now becomes weather it is slated to become a Jewish enclave, expanding the already sizable Sullivan County Jewish community.
