Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein Encourages Census Participation

In 2010, the neighborhoods of Borough Park and Midwood had the lowest response rate in the City of New York, resulting in the neighborhoods’ population being largely under-represented in the overall count.

Under-representation in the U.S. Census leads to billions of dollars in potential aid not coming to the Jewish community. This funding goes to purposes such as school funding, community security, food stamps, section-8, and medicaid.

Currently, approximately 25% of the areas of Borough Park and Midwood have responded to the U.S. Census – more that 15% behind the response rate of New York City at large. Based on the most recently available data, this is a devastating shortfall that will lead to under-funding of institutions and services across our neighborhoods.

However, it is not too late to fill out the U.S. Census. The U.S. Census can be filled out at Here,  or by calling 844-330-2020.

Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein represents the 48th Assembly District which includes Borough Park and Midwood in the New York State Assembly.
