Two Killed, Six Wounded in Jerusalem Terror Shooting

From Chabad.org:

A gunman opened fire from a car while driving by the Ammunition Hill andShimon Hatzadik light-rail stations in Jerusalem, killing two and wounding six. The terrorist was shot and killed by police as he fled toward the nearby Sheikh Jarrah neighbood.

The dead were identified as Levana Malihi, 60, a Knesset employee for 30 years and mother of three who was shot while driving her car, and First Sgt.Yosef Kirma, 29, a police officer who was pursuing the terrorist. They had been rushed to Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus. Three people were moderately injured and hospitalized, including a 68-year-old man. Three others were lightly injured, according to the Magen David Adom emergency medical services.

The attacker was a 39-year-old resident of Silwan, in eastern Jerusalem, said police.

The terrorist possessed an Israeli identification card, according to Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, who noted that “there were no prior warnings ahead of a focused attack like this.” Other details about the investigation and the terrorist were placed under a court-ordered gag order.

The attack began as the assailant in a white car drove by police headquarters on Haim Bar-Lev Street, which serves the city’s light rail, and opened fire at a group of people at the Ammunition Hill station, hitting one woman, police said.

He drove away and opened fire on a car, critically injuring one woman. He then fled to the Shimon Hatzadik station and opened fire, wounding more passersby. He was shot and killed by a special patrol unit of motorcycle police as he tried to escape into the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

The attack came after a few months of calm, following a long series of violent incidents that began one year, in October 2015.
