Jerusalem Vaad Tznius Member Heading to Prison

The High Court of Justice on Monday, 24 Cheshvan, rejected an appeal filed on behalf of Shmuel Weissfish, a member of the Geula neighborhood’s Vaad HaTznius. Shmuel was convicted of a number of acts of violence in targeting an area business that he deemed unsuitable. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment, which he will be beginning before Chanukah. In addition, he must reimburse the store’s owner for damage to the tune of 50,000 Shekels ($13,300).

The incident dates back four years, when Weissfish and his associates decided the electronic items sold in the store were corrupting the area youth. Weissfish and supporters regularly protested outside the store, negatively impacting business, threatening persons who tried entering to make a purchase. From there things got worse, and employees were threatened and they even entered the store and damaged merchandise.

BeChadrei Chareidim reports that the situation peaked in 2008, when during one of their protests Weissfish dragged the store owner outside and while holding him down, they beat him. The man sustained a number of fractures and bruises as a result of the beating.

Weissfish was convicted on counts of assault, extortion, threats and other related charges. During his trial, he accused the store owner of threatening him, denying the charges against him. He was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay compensation, as well as a fine of 5,000 NIS.

He attorney appealed to the High Court if the hope of a lighter sentence or a delay in reporting to prison, but the court would not hear of it.

It’s disgusting how people can use the Torah as a tool to act like gangsters and Mafia This person doesn’t even reach to the level of being a menuval b’reshus haTorah! I guess his philosophy is: kol yireoel areivem zeh lo zeh-unless they do something I don’t like-then I pretend to be a tzadik and act like a gangster.

of course im happy to see he is being punished and the way he acted is TERRIBLE but at the same time isn’t there some law about always getting a Jew out of prison?
how would this apply to him?
    just wondering!

Do you have all the facts? Did you hear waht the other person has to say? Do you believe that the secular Israeli courts are ethical and neutral when charedi issues are involved?

  • does vaad have a hatznius?

Chabad also has a vaad hatznius it just not called by that name “vaad hatznius” the Rebbe teaches us that the best possible “vaad hatznius” is when two parents make a beautiful home environment saturated with sholom bayis, unconditional love for all family members and a home permiated with the inner joy and beauty of judiasm and chassidishkeit!!

When parents truly live by the teachings of chassidus ( not just a superficial “chassidik style” pick and choose), they provide the proper ingredients for Jewish pride, self respect and a sense of dignity that is derived from meaningfull accomplishment not just the external looks.
