Sicko Murderer Tried to Kidnap Other Children

NY Post

SCARY BLOCK: A woman who lives in the home at left — three doors from Levi Aron’s on the right, where the admitted killer butchered Leiby Kletzky — says he tried to grab her son, too.

A woman who lives three doors down from “the Butcher of Brooklyn” said yesterday that the madman had tried to kidnap her young son right off their block, but that she scared him away with her screams.

“The story is true. We’re going through a lot of trauma here,” Zisa Berkowitz told The Post from her East Second Street home, steps from where Levi Aron admittedly suffocated 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky with a bath towel in Aron’s Kensington attic apartment.

NYPD detectives spoke to the mom on Wednesday, just hours after Aron was arrested for Kletzky’s murder and dismemberment.

The alleged kidnap attempt occurred within the past two years, sources said, and is further evidence of Aron’s longtime freakish fascination with young boys.

A former neighbor who grew up across the street said the “oddball . . . used to give kids rides in cars.”

Aron later moved to Tennessee, where his creepy stare freaked out customers at the kosher deli where he worked as a butcher. He was married briefly before bolting back to Brooklyn.

A Facebook “friend” told the iPad news publication The Daily that Aron had written on the site that “he likes Brooklyn more than Tennessee because there are more boys here.”

Aron went after another local boy in a failed kidnapping attempt about a week before the Leiby murder, sources told The Daily.

He stalked the 11-year-old in Borough Park with the same Honda he used to abduct Leiby, the sources said.

“[He] was walking home on his block when he noticed a gold car was tailing him,” a source said. “He kept turning around, feeling suspicious, and kept noticing the car was there, so he broke into a run and quickly went home to tell his parents.”

Leiby wasn’t so lucky.

The lost child asked Aron for directions and was instead driven to the madman’s house. Aron fed the boy and left him home Tuesday while going to work.

That night, Aron panicked over the intense search and media coverage of the boy’s disappearance and suffocated him.

But Leiby put up a fierce struggle against his killer, leaving scratch wounds on Aron’s arms and wrists as he tried to save his own life.

Sources yesterday described the subsequent butchery in greater detail.

They said Aron cut off the boy’s entire legs so the body would better fit in a small suitcase. He then severed the feet and placed them in the freezer as a sick souvenir.

Aron later tossed the suitcase into a Dumpster two miles away in Sunset Park.

He was arrested that day and charged with murder.

He spent yesterday in the Bellevue Hospital prison ward undergoing a court-mandated psychiatric evaluation. He wasn’t allowed any visitors, and no member of his Orthodox Jewish family even tried to see him.

At Leiby’s house, the boy’s parents continued observing the traditional Jewish seven-day mourning period known as shiva.

The Kletzky family posted a statement for reporters saying, “We are forever grateful and thankful to HaShem (G-d).”

“We would also like to express to each and every individual — to our friends and neighbors and our fellow New Yorkers and to all the volunteers and all the agencies from the local, city, state and federal who assisted us above and beyond physically, emotionally and spiritually — and to all from around the world, who had us in their thoughts and prayers,” the statement read.

“From the depths of our mourning hearts, THANK YOU!” it concluded.

So why didn’t she report it? Does this make her culpable too? Instead of her righteous indignation, she should be klopping Al Chet.

  • Goosebumps in CH

That sent goosebumps all up my arms. What a sick, SICK world we live in!

  • shame

Shame on those parents who didn’t report the attempted previous abductions! I’m sure they are having a hard time living with their guilt!

  • HE IS VERY LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is becoming really really scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Baroch

Why the helll didn’t that first lady report to the police? I sure as hell would have. No nice guys here. Let Aron rot behind bars and pace back and forth to see what limb he can sever from his own evil kenivel body. Brother.

  • UNFORTUNATELY!!

Okay, so let’s say this women did report the attempted kidnap, what then?
do you really think that this beast would have been taken right off of the streets, locked up, key thrown away and never have the chance to hurt another child again???? The police would have filed a report and then let him go anyways. Right or wrong????????

  • Just reading

#4 you think everything in this world is reported. Believe me it’s not. Should be but it’s not. BUT don’t tell me it never happened

    # 1 & 3 You are right. Until people get over this reservation not to act, you will–Heven Forfend–have instantces of this type. No matter what you think of the authors of the Psak that was discussed here previously, the point is that unless it is reported and investigated, then the problem will only manifest itself even further. And, as #4 wrote, it never exits. Until people realize that it is their Torah obligation to act=not to hide behind the concept that it is not proper to go to non-Jewish authorities, you are asking for trouble,

  • TO #4

I AGREE WITH #4 THIS DOES NOT MAKE SENSE SOMEONE TRIES TO KIDNAP YOUR OWN CHILD AND YOU DO NOT REPORT IT..IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!!

  • SOMETHING DOES NOT FIT

If the boy was indeed kept alife staying at the murderes’s home on tuesday, how come he did not attempt to escape by running away, breaking a window, screaming, calling if a phone was availablke? If he indeed went to a wedding in Monsey staying in the murderes car/ why didn’t he open it and run away? While there was some blood etc in the murderes’s apartment, the place was not messy. This leads me to believe that the boy was probably killed on monday, shortly after being kidnapped.

  • no 20/20 vision please let us act now

please let us not turn this into a witch hunt, there are strange yet harmless people out there however,
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REPORT ANY ANY SUSPICIONS TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES and they will deal with it accordingly

  • CAUTIOUS MOTHER

HAVING LIVED IN NEW YORK LONG ENOUGH, AND FROM MY VERY OWN PERSONAL KIDNAPPING STORY, I KNOW THAT THE POLICE DON’T GIVE A DARN. SO IF MY CHILD WOULD HAVE COME HOME TELLING ME HE WAS BEING FOLLOWED, I WOULD NOT SIMPLY CALL THE STUPID COPS BUT WOULD EMBELISH THE FACTS TO A MORE SERIOUS SITUATION SO THAT THE POLICE MIGHT FEEL THEY HAVE TO DO SOMETHING. EVEN AS IT WERE, HAD SHE REPORTED THIS TO THE POLICE THEY MIGHT HAVE KEPT AN EYE ON HIM, AND EVEN IF NOT, BUT WEHN LITTLE LEIBBY WENT MISSING THEY MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT TO CHECK THIS MURDERER OUT. AND POSSIBLY GOTTEN THERE IN TIME. THE MORAL IS ALWAYS REPORT EVERY INCIDENT NO MATTER HOW MINUTE IT MAY SEEM AT THE TIME.

I don’t know about everyone else, but if my child was nearly abducted by some creepy person, even if that person was now if police custody, I don’t know that I’d be giving my name to every newsperson to publish. A while back, here in MKE, a young girl claimed she was walking home with some friends when some guy stopped and asked the group to help him find an address – she and the friends bolted, went home, told mom & dad, mom & dad reported it to the cops. Good idea – but then, the dad of this girl agrees to go on camera with every local news channel WITH his name at the bottom of the screen, as “father of child nearly abducted”. I knew this guy, he was intelligent, but none of us could understand why on earth he’d agree to do that. We later found out he was hounded for months and harassed, particularly by the guy who “allegedly” was trying to kidnap his kid…not the brightest bulb in the box!

  • REPORT IT? HA HA HA!

I know of an incident, where, at shul, someone got drunk,
lured a retarded teenage girl across the street into a private room, and, according to her account, he touched her inappropriately. She was, B“H, found by bachurim before it went any further.

When the parent complained to the Rav,the Rav said,”Leave it alone. I know these guys are grubbe zachen, but what do you want me to? Do you want to embarass us?”

Maybe the reason she did no report it was because of the fear
of being labled a Moser. Now remember, Mesirah is a very serious issue to mess with.

How was she suppose to know that he would, later on, do something like this? I don’t think she needs to feel guilty.

Seriously, what is wrong with you?! What happened to little leibby, is a pure tradgedy. Even if she did report it, doesnt mean he would be locked up as nothing ended up happening. And as a person who didnt report myself being attacked by a homeless and mentally-ill man, i guarentee you – survival is the most important thing – not reporting the incidence. When it happened to me, i was too scared to report or even relive what happened. so before you open your mouth to blame others – know what it feels like to be in a situation like that.

and yes, i live with worry that he will come back again

If he gets off on insanity he could be back after treatment completes.
The insanity plea must be abolished.
Here in Montreal a doctor got off on insanity b/c he stabbed his kids dozens of times while they pleaded for mercy.
If he had shot them once in their sleep he would have gotten the max penalty here.
The sicker the crime, the better the chance of a successful insanity plea.
This doc will be on the street in 6 months b/c it was a one time case of insanity since he found out his wife was sleeping with his best friend.
Before this one stress he was normal.
In the Torah there is no insanity clause.
I believe these guys were insane when they did these sick things.
    Who cares?
Get rid of the insanity plea completely, it is totally insane.

i don’t believe her at all. either she is immagining something from nothing or she is looking for attention by telling a made-up story…
