One-Sided Journalism or Major Chilul Hashem? – Part 2
A drunken Hasidic Jewish man who assaulted his Turkish neighbour – pouring beer on her and calling her a ‘terrorist’ – hid in a synagogue and tried to fight policemen when they came to arrest him, sources said.
Simchon Schwartz, 46, is said to have kicked out a window of a police patrol car as he sat inside, complaining his handcuffs were ‘too tight’.
According to police sources, Schwartz screamed [expletive] Arabs! [expletive] terrorists!’, when he grabbed neighbor, Selda Turan, 27.
He then shoved the 32-year-old woman against her car, opened a can of beer and poured it on her head.
When her husband rushed out of the house to protect his wife he was punched in the face by Schwartz.
Schwartz’s fled to the synagogue on nearby E. 69th St., while the Turan’s called the police.
When they arrived Schartz’s son led them to his father’s hiding place.
Cops smelled alcohol on his breath, a source said.
He was driven back to his house, where the Turan’s neighbours identified him as the culprit.
Sources have reported that Schwartz’s wife made a veiled threat to the victims, sources said.
‘This is a majority Jewish neighborhood. We’re going to get you back,’ Esther Schwartz told the Turans, the sources said.
Neighbours in the predominantley Jewish neighborhood say the Turans, who are from Turkey, moved into the area about a month ago.
it isn’t clear if they are Muslim.
Car dealer Schwartz is facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
He appeared in Brooklyn Criminal Court where he was arraigned on charges of felony assault and felony criminal mischief, both as hate crimes.
He was also charged with resisting arrest, obstructing cops, menacing and harassment.
His attorney Lance Lazzaro said: ‘They arrested the wrong person.’
Lazzaro claims Schwartz was attacked by Mrs Turnan’s husband Mustafa Turan, 32, after she had complained about Schwartz’s children.
He said Mr Turan called Schwartz a ‘dirty Jew’ before hitting him.
But police say they found no physical evidence supporting Schwartz’s accusations while Mustafa Turan had suffered facial injuries.
mo
haha how is this one sided journalism?? the guy seems like hes on crack, and assaulted a nice turkish lady
a crown heights resident
You have a photo of a NYPD police car, but your source is the Daily Mail, a british paper. Please clarify where this took place.
crazy
this guy NEEDS MAJOR HELP!!!
R. Gould
The fact that Schwartz was drunk does not put him in good light no matter who started. Name calling by either side is wrong and whether this Turkish family is Moslem or not is not an issue.
I am not privy to the whole story but based on this article prejudice and alcohol don’t mix.
I pray the truth comes out at some time, also the fact that schwartz’ son turned him in speaks volumes on what may have really happened
Whats the Truth
Can you please bring the report of what really happened.
Hasidic
cant be to Hasidic if his daughter dating a muslim thta what in today paper
Bias
I think the bias here is that it was on the front page of the paper!! If the alleged perpetrator wasn’t a religious Jew this article probably wouldn’t have made the police blotter section.
not in CH
Yesterday Daily News had him as Brooklyn Hasid , now we get the facts..Today he is a Jewsish Suspect, obviously the facts come later for the Daily News..the guy is probaby barely observant ,…the News has become the old NY POST with its Sensational Headlines
strange
It is documented that the daughter of this so-called chossid is dating an albanian mulim and the father is ok with it.Something is very bizarre here. Does anyone know the real story? There is no way these are religious Jews when they are just fine with her boyfriend.
Questionable Situation
The only possibility is that he is a very new baal tshuva, or someone who is searching and hangs around the Chabad House. Rabbi Lider spoke to one of the TV reporters about the issue; the video was bad and I didn’t understand if he actually knows Schwartz or was just saying that Jews don’t act like this.
