Rubashkin Acquitted on all Child Labor Charges!

WATERLOO — Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin was found not guilty in Iowa state court of violating child labor laws today, Monday.

Shortly before 1:00 PM the jury indicated they had reached a verdict, they found Rubashkin not guilty on 67 counts of child labor violations involving 26 teenagers from Guatemala and Mexico who worked at the former Agriprocessors plant in Postville.

The verdict followed a nearly month-long trial in which prosecutors argued that dozens of children were working at the plant. Former workers testified they were hired while in their teens after providing false documents showing they were older.

Defense attorney Mark Weinhardt said Rubashkin’s “mistake was trusting” the personnel department.

Rubashkin was charged after a May 2008 immigration raid in which 389 workers were arrested at the plant.

He will be sentenced June 22 in federal court for separate fraud convictions in connection with bank loans the company received.

    The State cannot appeal a not guilty verdict. They can only bring new charges if some NEW information surfaces.

    can he now go and sue the state?? i mean this whole thing cost him everything inlcuding having to sell agri!! even if all goes well on the other things and god willing it will!! he has nothing to fall back on at this point and i cant imagine this whole process was a cheap one.

    if he cant sue to get back some money we as a community need to step up and create a fund to help the family get things back together and someone who is capable of giving the man a job should by all means do so, this guy deserves it!!

    The only problem is this:

    Since Rubashkin was convicted on the more serious fraud charges, the immigration trial would only serve to extend the process, prosecutors said.
    Convictions on the 72 immigration charges would be “entirely eclipsed” by the recommended sentencing guidelines for the fraud convictions, Deegan said in the motion.

    So many expressions of jubilation, I just wanted to add mine, just for the Malochim in Shomayim to see and report.

    My prayer is for a refuoh shleimoh to all those self hating Jews who have a persistent need to demonize others whom in their eyes were having a good time making money, unlike themselves. I am convinced 95% of them are stuck in a cubicle 9-5 and from there they either go home to a miserable marriage or to their parents, as still single in their 40s. May Hashem grant them some relief from whatever nags at them, thus the Yidden who are going thru tremendous yissurim, will be relieved from the extra unnecessary negative energy and Keetrughim these people are generating.

    May we all soon rejoice in the great upcoming news that Sholom Rubashkin will be found NOT GUILTY on all charges.

    Yidden, let’s prepare ourselves to mark our calendars with that date, commemorating the great achievement Klal Yisroel realized by uniting in prayer for one Yid, no matter to what group he belonged.     There seems to be a lot of surprise over the victory. it was not the lawyers or the jury but the rebbes kochos and the aibeshter and I for one while greatly pleased have been expecting this for a while now. Sholom Mordichi should have only Brachos and Hatzlocha as he deserves.
