Israel’s Chief Rabbi Metzger Visits Jews in Krefeld, Germany

GERMANY — On the 2nd of Nissan 5770, the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yona Metzger visited the Jewish community of Krefeld. He was accompanied by HaRav Arie Goldberg, Director of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe, and HaRav Mintzberg, the RCS’s mikvah expert.

The Krefeld Jewish community is one of 25 communities throughout Europe that will receive financial aid to build a mikvah thanks to the Rabbinical Centre of Europe.

The rabbis were received by the mayor of Krefeld and politicians from the mayor’s office.

Afterwards they visited the Krefeld shul, which was inaugurated in 2008.

Until now most Krefeld Jews had to travel to Antwerp , a 90 minute drive from Krefeld , in order to go to the mikvah.

Frum Jewish Krefeld was founded by the “Krefelder Rebbe,” Admor Yehuda Leib Karlburg, in Napoleon’s time. Rabbi Karlburg was one of the famous students of Rav Natan Adler of Frankfurt .

Rabbi Yitzchak Mendel Wagner is the first rabbi in Krefeld after WWII.

This warms my heart. My great grandfather, Sigismund Frank, was born in Krefeld in 1848.
