Suspect Sought in Graffiti Incidents
CALGARY [CTV] — A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for an 18-year-old man wanted in connection to anti Semitic graffiti incidents in Calgary.
The identity of the man cannot be revealed because he was 17-years-old at the time the crimes were committed.
On November 15th, residents woke up to find anti Semitic slogans and signs spray painted in the southwest communities of Pump Hill and Woodbine.
The offending images were painted on the Calgary Jewish Centre as well as a holocaust memorial.
The suspect is facing hate-related charges.
The Calgary Jewish Community Council (CJCC) is happy to hear charges have been laid and says the graffiti was devastating to the city’s Jewish community.
“These charges send a very strong message that Calgary does not tolerate anti-Semitism or racism of any kind,” says Adam Singer, a spokesperson for the CJCC.
Police say the suspect has ties to local hate groups.
His name have been circulated to police agencies across the country.
