Hearing set in Agriprocessors Child Labor Case

DES MOINES, AI [AP] — Attorneys for the owner and former managers of an embattled northeast Iowa kosher slaughterhouse are scheduled to appear Wednesday in court in Waterloo to seek a delay in a trial on child labor charges.

Other issues expected to be argued during the hearing involving Agriprocessors Inc. of Postville and its former leaders include motions to dismiss and motions for change of venue.

Last September, the Iowa attorney general’s office filed more than 9,000 child labor violations against the plant and its owners and managers.

The plant was the site of an immigration bust last May that resulted in the arrest of 389 workers.

Agriprocessors also operated a plant near Gordon, Neb., that was not involved in the allegations.
