NEW YORK, NY — A judge in the U.S. rejected a claim that the broadcast of an allegedly anti-Semitic song with similarities to the Disney classic “When You Wish Upon a Star,” on a FOX televison show would constitute improper use.

The FOX “Family Guy” series produced an episode entitled “When You Wish Upon a Weinstein” which featured a song called “I Need a Jew.”

The U.S. court ruled this week that the song, in a segment in which the leading character in the show looks for a Jew to manage his money, was humorous and sufficiently different in character that it didn’t infringe on the rights of the owners of the Disney song.

ME!, did you read the article? Obviously they didn’t ask permission, but it doesn’t matter, because the case was dismissed.

The fact that the lyrics are frankly antisemitic is irrelevant to the copyright question. And they’re funny, so no Jew with a sense of humour is going to get upset about it either. Unlike certain ethnicities…
