MACTAN, Philippines — Authorities arrested an Israeli national over a bomb joke in Mactan Cebu International Airport Sunday.
Airport police nabbed Israeli national Eliav Gaoli for joking that he has a bomb hidden in his shoes.
Gaoli was already on his way back to Manila with his cousin Naor Nariski when he joked about carrying a bomb in his shoes.
He cracked the joke to an airport employee while his shoes were passing through security inspection through an X-ray machine.

Gaoli and his cousin were already going through the final checking when authorities made the arrest.
The Israeli will undergo a medical check up before charges are filed against him.

Airport security are known for their no-nonsense approach to these jokes which is quite understandable. I have a friend who did a similar thing; when the lady at the check-in counter asked if anyone had given him anything to take in his luggage, he mentioned that some guy named Achmed gave him some ticking thing to bring. Needless to say, she didn’t find it funny, but rather alerted the security. He eventually lost his ticket and got blacklisted from the airline altogether. Bottom line, save the jokes for later!

How does anybody NOT know this? If he really had no idea, then he deserves to sit in jail just for being so ignorant of the world around him. I mean, it’s not as if we’re talking about someone who’s been sitting with his nose in a gemara all his life and never wasted time finding out anything else; such a person wouldn’t be in Cebu in the first place, absorbing cheizu dehai almo. Anyone else ought to know this.
