BREAKING: Gaza Ceasefire Deal Accepted, Details Withheld

Update: Five female IDF soldiers are expected to be released this coming Sunday as part of the hostage deal. Two American citizens, Keith Siegel and Sagui Dekel-Chen, will be released in the first phase of the deal.

Update: According to the Qatari Prime Minister, the deal will go into effect on January 19th.

A ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas has been accepted, with Israel and Hamas agreeing to swap hostages for prisoners along with other concessions.

“Today, after many months of intensive diplomacy by the United States, along with Egypt and Qatar, Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage deal,” Biden announced in a statement. “This deal will halt the fighting in Gaza, surge much needed-humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians, and reunite the hostages with their families after more than 15 months in captivity.”

While this news has been met with mixed emotions, one fact remains clear, we don’t actually know the details of the plan, and therefore don’t know who benefits more.

Many Chabad Rabbis have come out in protest of the deal, saying “At an emergency meeting of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace (RCP), which includes about 400 rabbis across Israel, Congress leaders called upon all rabbis, both in Israel and abroad, to take urgent action to prevent the impending hostage deal, which they have described as a “second disengagement disaster.”

According to rumors, as many as 33 hostages may be released in the first stages of the deal, with Israel releasing hundreds of prisoners in exchange.

Details of the deal are expected to become public within the next few weeks.
