Israel Closes Gaza Fishing Zone Until Further Notice

Following security consultations, Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Sunday morning ordered the complete closure of the fishing zone in the Gaza Strip effective immediately and until further notice.

The decision was made in light of the rocket fire from Gaza on Saturday, the continued firing of incendiary balloons from the Gaza Strip into the territory of the State of Israel and the violation of quiet.

The decision follows the closure of the Kerem Shalom crossing last week, with the exception of the entry of essential humanitarian equipment into the Gaza Strip.

“Israel will respond firmly to all terrorist acts that harm the citizens of the State of Israel and its sovereignty, and will continue to act as necessary against these attempts. Hamas bears responsibility for everything done in and out of the Gaza Strip against Israel and it will bear the consequences of the violence perpetrated against the citizens of Israel as long as the security calm is not maintained,” said a spokesperson for the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

Overnight Saturday, IDF fighter jets and aircraft attacked additional terrorist targets of the Hamas organization in the southern Gaza Strip.

The attack targeted a military compound used by Hamas to store rockets and weapons.

It came in retaliation for a rocket that was fired from Gaza and which landed in the yard of a home in Sderot. There were no physical injuries, but several people suffered from anxiety. The home sustained minor damage.

Shortly before midnight, IAF fighter jets and aircraft attacked several Hamas terrorist targets in the Gaza Strip.

The attack targeted a Hamas military compound and underground infrastructure. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement that the attack was carried out in response to the firing of incendiary balloons from the Gaza Strip to Israeli territory and in response to the disturbances along the border fence.
