Three armed bandits stormed into a Crown Heights post office just before dawn Tuesday, forcing workers to the ground, then running off with at least several thousand dollars, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

As the suspects fled the James E. Davis Post Office, they slammed an incoming employee to the ground, but she suffered only a minor shoulder injury, officials said. The facility, closed Tuesday as officials investigated the crime scene, is scheduled to be open Wednesday.

The 5:40 a.m. robbery comes nearly a year after the Foch Boulevard post office in South Ozone Park was robbed.

One arrest has been made in that case, but at least one other suspect is still being sought, and postal officials are investigating the possibility the two incidents are linked.

The three suspects in Tuesday’s robbery appeared to know what they were doing, suggesting the post office had been watched for a while or that former workers might be involved, law enforcement sources said.

The suspects, each carrying a gun and wearing what appeared to be scarves over their faces, showed up at the Empire Boulevard facility, named for the slain city councilman, and announced a robbery as they went in through the loading dock area.

“As they entered the building, two of the suspects shouted the command to lie on the ground, shouted profanities,” said Postal Inspector Al Weissmann. “Simultaneously, the third gunman forced the manager to open the safe.”

Inside the safe was a bag containing at least several thousand dollars, the sources said.

The third gunman grabbed it and fled with his two accomplices.

The robbery forced the closure of the facility Tuesday, while a mobile post office parked outside to handle customers throughout the day.

In the South Ozone Park robbery, two men fled with $20,000 after tying up three clerks and a child, the daughter of one of the workers.

That incident, which occurred Dec. 21, happened just after the 5 p.m. closing.
