Sem girls bring American carnival to Kfar Chabad

KFAR CHABAD, Israel [CHI] — The women’s section of the Beis Menachem Shul in Kfar Chabad was booming with excitement as the village’s children ran from booth to booth. In the spirit of Chanukah, the American Girls Seminary in Michlelet Beth Rivkah organized a carnival full of fun. Although signs for the carnival were only seen as of Monday night, when the doors opened at 2:30pm on Wednesday, the first day of Chanukah, hundreds of children were waiting anxiously at the door.

When the children reached the top of the stairs, most of them stopped in amazement. The sight was a completely new and innovative one. The room was bordered with tables which housed booths of all sorts: sponge the clown, art & crafts, drinking races, candy races, blow out the candle, marshmallow treats, and much, much, more.

The children had to use tickets to play the races and earned prize tickets for winning. There were also sweets, doughnuts and cotton candy! The girls organizing the carnival received amazing feedback so far.

Many parents who participated remarked how Kfar Chabad never had events like this one and it was absolutely historical. And, truthfully, it was. “We were not expecting such a huge turnout,” said Penninah Dean, one of the coordinators, “we got such grateful feedback, and we can’t wait to do it again.” Preparing for the carnival was no piece of cake for the girls who learn every day until after dark.

But, they thankfully received help and support from the all the staff in Beth Rivkah. Specifically, Rabbi Moshe Cheffer, Rabbi Michoel Mizrachi, Mrs. Devorah Leah Ashkenazi and their devoted dorm counselors. Many community members were also very gracious and donated many materials for the carnival.

Among the generous donors were all the staff at Lipskiers, Michoel Mizrachi, Meir Malkah, The Village, Elkana, Rivkin’s Fruit Store and several others. “This carnival was so beautiful you have to do it again,” said one grateful mother on her way out. “We hope to organize something for Tu B’shvat and Purim,” said Blumie Raskin, one of the coordinators, “we’re very happy that it was such a success and we just want to thank our supporters for everything they’ve given us.”
