Tuesday night a Lubavitcher girl was nearly raped on her way home, but thanks to an alert citizen this terrible event was averted. At around 3:00am last night a Shomrim member on his was home from an earlier assignment in 770, had a pedestrian stop him and tell him that a black man was following a Jewish girl, the Shomrim member called the Police right away, and proceeded to where they were, which was just off the corner of Kingston Ave. and Crown St., when he arrived Police were just arriving as well and together they nabbed the perp.

    I thought Bloomberg just swore up and down the the aisles of City Hall to all NY’ers that crime is DOWN in NY! And our (meaning CH’ers) stooge members of his entourage, including our own Veritable Vaad Hakohol were campaigning on this issue. Now, I certainly don’t mean to imply that Ferrar would have been any better. But, I just wish OUR OWN MEMBERS OF THE CH COMMUNTIY would stop the BS and be honest. Crime has increased here since Rudy’s time! What are our peace making Vaad members doing about this????

    Bloomberg is doin a good job with the crime rate!,matter in factly it has gone down in NewYork in general ,but in CH itself youre right it seems to have been going up!.something has to be done !

    hey crime in ny has went down but in ch over the last year it has went up we should do something about it like takeing the law in your hands if we dont take care of it no one will

    I totaly agree. Mr. "A Toshev Hashchunah" is 100% correct, over the past 4 years, although crime has gone down in New York, it has defanitly gone up in our community.

    I think the "PAC" who’ve been braging for the past weeeks about city crime going down and why we must vote for Blumberg got to do something.

    Slavin, Sperlin and all the other guys. You are responsible to improve this community and fighting crime must be your priority.

    Just a few days ago people were complaining about some news that was posted on this site from outside Crown Hieghts, if I remember it was something that happened in Williamsberg.

    Why now is everyone being ‘Melamed S’chus’ on Bloomberg and on the City? In our community crime is on the rise and as far as I’m concerned I couldnt give 2 hoots about the rest of the city.

    Bloomberg, the city council and the community council got to get cracking on the crime in this place.

    It is very likely that crime is down because the police are not recording it. This happens all the time in Crown Heights. The police record assults as ‘community disagreements’, and try to convince people not to file official reports. we need to wake up. Things have become worse and worse since the summer. Our community council has little or no pull in police affairs. If we do not get serious, something serious is going to happen, chas v’sholom, and then, maybe people will wake up!

    It is not the police who are responsible to report crimes. It is our responsibility to call the police for every slashed tire and broken window. When we call them and report it, we know they are not catching the crook, but they file a report and that counts for the statistics. Most cracked windows in CH are done to Jewish cars because the crooks know that we have Pushkas. I would not be suprised if some of our very own druggies are doing some of these crimes to pay for their habits.

    When it was posted about the assult in Williamsburg. Not once was there a mention to do with crime and Bloomberg’s ratings or crime stats. Every one knows that that was an inside job in a dispute to do with the Eruv and that the guy was also beaten in shul the shabbos before.

    The newspaper article never mentioned race or color. Just a location. Who ever posted this article has sensationalized it by saying a member of shomrim was there, and it was someone Jewish. Why didn’t this member call for backup? He must have been dreaming and fell in the negel vasser and woke up.

    As for what is a Jewish girl doing about at that time of morning. Who cares, it is none of your business. As she is over 18 she can do what she likes when she likes. We are not communists here and have we have no curfews. Yes people should know the dangers and risks of being around at that time of night alone.

    I don’t understand you. Why would go and write such negative things especially when they aren’t true?

    Do you know as a matter of fact that this wasn’t a Jewish girl? Do you know as a matter of fact that there wasn’t a Shomrim member there? And that he didn’t call for backup?

    Let’s just rationalize this for one second and say that yes he didn’t call for backup. The reason being that it was 3 in the morning and the police were on scene and didn’t deem it necessary to go and get additional members out of bed.

    In a perfect world, women would be able to ride the subway at any hour of the day or night and be safe. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world. Taking the subway at 3AM by oneself is simply not smart. Asking a complete stranger for directions at that hour (and thereby advertising the fact that you don’t know where you are going) is dumb too. I"m not blaming the victim, but people need to excercise some common sense.

    p.s. i actualy do enjoy this site the articals are realy interesting i go to it everyday…but the comments sometimes make me sick..and that has nothing to do with the person who is in charge of the site..and u shouldnt realy sensor the comments either..ppl should just look at what there saying and realize how stupid they sound..y fight over weather soemone was there or not y dont u try to come up with sulotions to these problems..like some smart ppl actualy mention?!?!?!

    miki, im not that worked up about it i just think that its a bit sad and for us it may be ok (im assuming ur a young adult) but what about older ppl who visit the site if there are any or will be in the future..i think thay may get turned off from such things..and in any case a forum or a chat room would be realy nice and interesting..and ppl can talk about ANYTHING and its not like its refering to a specific article like these comments!
