Deadline Extended for EBT Scam Victims to Claim Money

The Federal government will continue taking claims from New Yorkers scammed out of their EBT funds, two Brooklyn lawmakers announced Tuesday.

In 2022, New Yorkers had EBT funds stolen from their accounts in a skimming scam that affected thousands. Assemblyman William Colton and City Council Member Susan Zhuang said the Human Resources Administration will continue reimbursing EBT customers until at least December 20, 2024.

Skimming occurs when devices are illegally installed at ATMs or cash registers. These devices capture card data and PIN entries, according to the FBI.
