A slight risk of Flash Flooding in New York City has prompted the National Weather Service to publish an advisory for Monday through Tuesday morning as localized rain is expected to drench the area.

According to the NWS, “Localized to scattered areas of flash flooding possible, with excessive runoff that may result in flashier small streams, rivers, and creeks rising out of their banks.”

The rain is expected to dump 1 to 2 inches across the area with localized amounts higher up to
around 3 inches possible. The estimated rate of rainfall could be as high as 1 to 2 inches an hour.

Along with the rain comes the potential for severe thunderstorms, whose damaging winds may down power lines across the area.
