Alcohol Awareness, The Importance of Alcohol Server Training

With New Year’s Eve celebrations at hand, a new media campaign targeting liquor-serving businesses was launched by Brooklyn-based substance abuse prevention organization, Operation Survival. The campaign hopes to raise awareness about the importance of Alcohol Server Training.

Alcohol Server Training is a course designed to educate servers, bartenders, and other alcohol vendors on the liabilities and responsibilities associated with serving alcohol. According to Behrman, most servers are unaware that the law prohibits practices like serving alcohol to someone visibly intoxicated or to a habitual drinker.

Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, Director of Operation Survival said in a statement, “We need to bring awareness to local businesses that this training exists and could save lives. It’s an investment of a couple hours that prevents alcohol related accidents and crime.

“New Year’s Eve is a time when we see a spike in alcohol related accidents and crime. We’re calling upon all bars and liquor stores to be aware of their obligation, follow the liquor laws by not serving intoxicated people, minors and problem drinkers and do their part to keep New Yorkers safe.
