Russian Police Officers Gain Insight into Jewish Community
Ufa, Russia – A conference for representatives of law enforcement agencies has just wrapped up in Russia, but this one is like no event previously held. This event was organized and sponsored by the Chief Rabbinate of Russia. More than 1,000 police officers from across the country attended lectures on the history of the Jewish people in Russia and internationally.
Rabbi Aaron Gurevich, the official Chaplain of the Army, gave the opening speech on behalf of Chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar. Specialists told participants about the unique Jewish national traditions and Jewish mentality, with special attention to the problem of anti-Semitism and sensitivity regarding the Holocaust.
At the end of the conference, representatives of the Chief Rabbinate of Russia and the police officers reached an agreement on areas of cooperation on issues concerning Jewish citizens.
