Open Letter from a Member of the Community
To the residents of Crown Heights,
“Where Hashem has commanded His blessing”,
Greetings and Blessings,
Our community has unfortunately experienced numerous tragedies of late; with one calamity closely followed by yet another (may Heaven protect us). Included in the unfortunate string of events have been the deaths of loved ones, honored Chassidim, as well as Shluchim of the Rebbe…
We cannot remain aloof or unmoved by these occurrences, which are certainly not random and meaningless. The Rambam states, “For people to insist: ‘The disaster that has befallen us is noth-ing more than the common course of nature’ is to choose a cruel path.” Our reaction should rather accord with the verse, “And the living will take it to heart.” Simply put, each person should ponder his or her own deeds — not those of anyone else… — to see what needs ‘repairing’ and to determine the path he or she should take from this point on.
By doing so, may we merit the realization of the Halachic ruling, “In Nissan the Jews were re-deemed [from Egypt] and in Nissan — meaning this very Nissan — they are destined to be re-deemed [by Moshiach]”, in the actual and literal sense.
A Kosher and joyful Pesach,
From a Concerned Senior Member of our Community

So if you are a “senior” member then you should surley know that
And a pashkvil should NOT be posted online vdal

To “name” and anyone else who has only critisizm:
Why don’t YOU sign your name? Is it because you are embarrassed of your heartlessness and do not with to reveal your true identity?
Try to feel the pain, for just one minute, of those who have endured tragedy this year. I am sure that if you knew of such direct and knife stabbing pain that so many of our friends and relatives have been thrown into this year, you would sing a different tune.

Thank you. As a family member touched by such pain, I appreciate this shout out to the community. If any good deeds can come about through these deaths, it is a great comfort. Please heed his words and learn something from the lives of those who are no more.

to “name” y dont u say ur name?

It is emabbarrasing to read your immature comments, this “senior” did not write anything wrong. Why do you always look for reasons to bash a member of our community. Why don’t you all learn from what he’s pointing out. The rebbe cried for us to have ahavas yisroel. Believe me, it won’t hurt…

The lack of honesty by criticizers not signing their names while castigating others IS A SYMPTOM of the malaise of this community. ‘Keep far from a false thing’, says the Torah. Those who won’t sign their names (unless there’s some realistic reason) will be ‘followers,’ while the Rebbe (Melech haMoshiach) wanted to make leaders. Ah, well, leaders need followers.
The problem is not the ‘machlokes,’ over ‘there,’ it’s right ‘here’ in my house.
I’ve been insulted in public without apology. A rav on our beit din insulted me (I’ll tell the story to anyone w/o names. When responsible people heard the story, they were upset). I was abused by a Lubavitcher boss (my fine co-worker agreed the boss took advantage of me).
And me? Why, I’m no tzadik! I try to fight my yetzer. I try (not always successfully-very hard to love a Jew who calls the police on you); to love my fellow Jew. I go around teaching the 7 Noahide Laws to as many non-Jews as I can.
oh my goodness...
why does everything have to turn into an argument? why cant people just look at the positive and stop being so negative about things. if someone is putting a letter out in the open, asking everyone to just start doing good deeds, why cant you just accept that request? there is nothing wrong by such a request. who cares if the person signs his/ her name or not. looking for arguments is NOT what is going to bring Moshiach.
chana
the point is not who wrote this letter.
it’s a powerful and true point for EVERYONE to take to heart.
Thank you for printing this letter

to those that complain that no name was written…. WHO CARES!!! THATS NOT THE POINT OF THE LETTER! CANT YOU JUST READ IT AND GET THE MESSAGE WITH OUT IT BEING ENDORESED BY A “SENIOR MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY”
out of town
It is chocking how you are so closed minded. Who cares if this person did not sign his name. Why don’t you read this message for what it is. Why do you argue with every detail. It is so sad to read the way people are reating so low. We are erev Pessach, Hashem is watching us. JUST CLOSE YOUR MOUTH and concentrate on all the good . Are we going to stay here for ever. Have Chag KOSHER ve SAMRACH

The problem is, that everyone thinks ”MY OPINION IS L’SHAIM SHOMAYIM!“ when they get into a public machlokes. The letters that get dumped on people’s doorstop are just declarations of why that person is righteous, frum, and correct, and the other person is wrong according to Halacha.
The point is, THINK TWICE. Maybe your opinion isn’t so right after all! I would like to see even our Rabbonim, may they be well, agree on something for a change!
The community is guided and influenced by our leaders. Shalom and true leadership starts with them. We see this from the days of Moshe Rabbeinu, and forward.
Perhaps if our Rabbonim and the influential ”leaders” of the community can make peace, the people will follow. The only other way is mass rebellion by the people, to demand responsible leadership. And that will never happen because people have too much respect for our Rabbonim, may they be well. They must take the reins and decide to make peace once and for all.
With respect for a chag kosher v’sameach.

Thank you for reminding us and hopefully many people will make posisive changes in thier lives as im sure many people already have.

Unfortunate for those where the truth hurts so much that it puts you into denial. The verses quoted were honest and realistic.Exactly what would a name help the situation. In my opinion a name would just cause machloikes “because of his name”.Every one take a look inside your own self and ask are you doing what the Rebbeh wants of you.Dont look at what the other is doing/not doing.May we merit the geulah shlaimah today.
individual realities
about 20 years ago(?) there were several lubav women who died in a relatively short period of time. nshei chabad wrote into the rebbe asking for advice in light of the string or pattern of tragedy to befall chabad women, and what special mitzva or mivtza should be done, etc.
the rebbe’s response as i heard it (go confirm with secretariat) was-
one should connect dots only for good. but its always good to do good things, so do xyz
in other words, you can create patterns as you wish.
in the last three days, months or years, there were how many sholom zochors? how many births of healthy children? how many bar mitzva celebrations? weddings? l’chaims?
tragedy is tragedy. happy occassions are happy. patterns? you make them. they don’t exist. mourn with or for the sad things. party with or for the happy things. and always make sure you do good, and if you feel so moved, try even harder.
but there is no string unless YOU put it there.

We love to mock, criticize, arouse suspicions, spread ill will, put down others and spread hate. We love to be jealous, get angry, and create controversy…and we will continue to do so in our Mitzrayim, in our golus, and in our darkness. It makes us feel good. And this is the avodah of our generation – to overcome this evil which we embrace.
