Purim: The Festival of Friendship

Reflecting the festive theme of Purim, the Friendship Circle at the Jewish Children’s Museum hosted a grand carnival on Monday, Shushan Purim for over 150 children and their families. What was introduced as an event quickly ballooned into a no-holds-barred Purim bash!

All through the room and all afternoon, volunteers assisted Friendship Circle children in celebrating this most exciting holiday. Friendship Circle director Tzirl Goldman points out, “It is very easy for a child with special needs to feel overwhelmed by the fast-paced and sometimes impersonal celebration of Purim. In this setting they experience the immense holiday joy on a personal level.”

The Friendship Circle Purim Carnival drew kids in for Hamantash-baking, cotton-candy-making and a list of thrilling activities that would do Coney Island proud. Carnival booths flanked the walls of the ballroom where joyful laughing mixed well with popping popcorn and bouncing moon-bouncers. A duo of danger-defying jugglers entertained the crowd late in the program causing one child to exclaim, “Friendship Circle makes the best parties and this is the best Friendship Circle party!”

Friendship Circle @ the Jewish Children’s Museum offers programs and personal visits for children with special needs in neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. If you or someone you know can benefit from the Friendship Circle services, please call 718 907 8852 or email friendshipcircle@jcm.museum.

some of you don’t realize how great the friendship circle is and how much they help families with all types of special situations. There are those with severe (chas ve shalom) conditions, and there are others with not as severe, but still problematic and difficult for the families. Whatever the level of their difficulties, Friendship circle is there for those who have any need, and HaShem should bless the volunteers and the recipients. We all have to consider what each of us can do for our CHts Friendship circle. Donations, volunteering, whatever it is, we can all do our part, there are lots of needs and theres something that YOU can do to take part. Its a way to make a REAL difference in people’s lives!
