Worcester, MA — A gift of nearly $2 million from the estate of Max and Ida Fallman will allow the Yeshiva Academy day school to offer college scholarships for the first time, Rabbi Hershel Fogelman said yesterday.

Mr. Fallman, whose family fled the Nazis in Austria to the United States in 1939, was a member of the Yeshiva board and a trustee of the Congregation Tifereth Israel Sons of Jacob Synagogue, Rabbi Fogelman said. Mr. Fallman was a photographer by trade and died in 2001.

“He valued education very much,” the rabbi said in an interview yesterday at the school on Newton Avenue.

Mr. Fallman and his wife did not have any children, and he left his estate to the school, for which he was a committed advocate throughout his life, Rabbi Fogelman said. The rabbi said school officials were stunned by the size of the gift, which totaled nearly $2 million.

The school was founded in 1943 through the efforts of synagogues on the East Side of the city.

Rabbi Fogelman said Mr. Fallman was a supporter of the school. Mr. Fallman saw continuity in the yeshiva, he said.

“He wanted to provide scholarships to students to further their educations,” he said.

A scholarship committee has been meeting to determine guidelines for awarding scholarships, but all Yeshiva Academy students entering college are eligible to apply. Students with scholarships will have to maintain at least a B average during their college years, Rabbi Fogelman said. The funds will be available for undergraduate and graduate programs, he added.

The scholarship committee includes lawyer Morris Bergman, Robert Kirsch, Mark Levine, Rabbi Chaim Fishman, Joel Shaw, Levi Reitchik, Abraham Deitsch and Rabbi Fogelman.

Mr. Bergman, president of the Yeshiva board, expressed gratitude on behalf of the parents, students and supporters of the school for Mr. Fallman’s vision.

  • you are a tyoical crown heights farmer

  • awed

Maybe it will draw children into the mosad if the parents know they will get a scholorship when the there children finish

  • shpy

It’s amazing how there’s always a negative angle to be found.

Consider for a moment how far this money will go in sending kids to seminary/yeshiva after high school graduation.

Providing students with an opportunity to continue their Jewish education on scholarship can have a tremendous impact on their Jewish future.

  • stunned right back at you

    to Shocked:
You are a low life, bored, moron!!!! Did it ever occur to you that maybe Mr. Fallman (the man who passed away) left the 2 million dollars for one reason and one reason only; that maybe it’s not up to the mosad to decide where the money should go?? Then again, youre probably just like the rest of the CH ghetto minds that know nothing about being on shlichus and what goes on in the non-frum world.Open up your eyes and your mind a little bit!!!!
p.s. for your 411, this money is not only being used for students going to college its for “furthering education” ie. yeshiva bochurim in yeshiva, or even for girls who go to seminary

  • mad at everyone

everyone lets have some ahavas yisroel and stop fighting and making fun of eachother, becasue its just hurting you not the person your msking fun of
    so everyone get some lives.

  • Patience, please

When you insult people in Crown Heights and call them “farmers” and other terms of negative connotation you are showing yourself to be as closed-minded as those whom you insult. Try explaining politely. People are not as stupid as you think…just maybe not as exposed to the outside world.

  • OY GEVALD... OPEN YOUR EYES!!

whats your point? this is a website with comments which means people can place there opinions, so mind your own business, and if you have a problem then dont come to this website
it is true that these comments are making fights, so if u have something to say write something possitive
    thank you
    and have a wonderfull day

  • shocked

mr stunned ever thought about saying ‘no’ to money if it is not up to you to decide what to do with it?
Do you know that in the ‘non frum world’ people say no to wills because they don’t want to pay taxes and debts and get into legal fights with relatives.
And please be realistic. How much of this money do you think will be going to brunoy (which according to mr farmer is considered an accredited college.)
The good thing is the word lubavitch isn’t mentioned anywhere in the article.
