  • dave

  • Correction

MBD Has sung in Crown Heights> Yud Aleph Nissan on Eastern Parkway and several times during Simchas Bais HoShoaiva

  • fully informed

just for the record this is NOT the first time MBD will be in concert in CH he sange once before a number of years ago on eastern pkwy for yud alef nisan and for that reason the main street on eastern pkwy was not closed off for the lag beomar parade that year which was on a sunday

  • Yankel

A very important cause, but a little disappointed that Avraham Fried won’t be there this year. I was hoping that this year, with his new album, it’d be his best show yet. Will he back next year? Anyone know?

    Donations can be sent to:
    Chasdei Zahavi Foundation
    1574 Carroll Street
    Brooklyn, NY 11213

Donations are of course welcome and the main purpose of this event is to raise funds for this critical need. But please come to the concert (first “full concert” we were told by a reliable source who may have forgotten a 23 year old show, apologies) as it will IY”H be a wonderful show.

    thanks

  • MBD Groupie

So the street wasn’t closed b/c MBD was there, so you’re saying that he’s not so big so when he’s there the crowd is so small that they don’t have to close the street? Did you ever hear if the chofetz chaim? do you know that that’s outright loshon horah? Maybe the street wasn’t closed b/c the city ran out of orange barrels? Maybe the police were unavailable? Maybe the organizers wanted the street to stay open so that more people would drive by and see the parade and it would be a bigger kiddush Hashem? And, maybe it was actually Mendy Werdyger who happens to have the same initails as as his brother (MBD)!

  • oooooooyyyyyy

What a lovely positive community this is. Last year when the announcement came out that Avraham Fried was doing the concert, word was that it is getting tired of the same thing. Now The Chasdei Zahavi foundation is doing something new, wonderful, and different, and there are vaiter complaints.
    oh well,
    Tzirel and Shmuly,
You will never make everyone happy. so just keep doing your best.
can’t wait to see you at the concert!

  • Stop complaining

If you don’t like the fact that Fried won’t be there, don’t show up either.

    Stop complaining like little kids.

  • Shimon

The MBD concert 23 years ago in Crown Heights was produced by Yiroel Shemtov for the benefit of Shmira. R’ Mordechai sang the traditional Ani Ma’amin sitting on a stool under a red light. Toward the end he segued into “We Want Moshiach Now,” and the crowd went nuts. People screaming and whistling and dancing in the aisles. The first time someone outside of Lubavitch acknowledged the Moshiach campaign.

R’ Mordechai also sang at a Lag B’Omer Parade in front of the Rebbe, but after two songs the Rebbe was impatient and said something to the effect of “this isn’t a concert.” So I guess that wasn’t a concert. And Simchas Beis Hashoeiva isn’t a concert. So though this will be at least the 4th time MBD is singing in Crown Heights it’s only the second concert.

  • Where is fried?????????

oh my, what a shame that fried will not be singing. MBD used to sing but his voice now is quite pathetic. Check out this link to see for yourself!
    http://www.youtube.com/watc
I will probably send a check too!

  • nothing like Fried for this event

AF made it like a family farbrengen… it wasnt stam a concert…

  • tama763

It just so happens that AF himself is an admirer and fan of MBD, so stop your fretting and support Chasdei Zahavi by buying your tickets and go to the concert; maybe if you are lucky AF will come onstage and sing a bit with MBD.
MBD is a wonderful performer and I look forward to seeing him for the first time in years.

  • Yankel

Tama, there is no extra mitzvah in going to the concert and if the performer is (way) past his prime then there REALLY isn’t any Mitzvah in going. The money gets to the same hands.

I’d suggest to those complaining (myself included) that if you don’t want to hear MBD then just write a check, in the amount you’d have given in the price of admission and send the check directly to Chasdei Zehava is a very worth while organization that helps out special needs children in our local community.

Don’t punish the Tzedakah because they weren’t able to have Avremel this year, but no one HAS to go to the concert either.

    Just give the Tzedakah.

  • ISchier

    1) I was informed by the producer that AF will not be there this year; of course there could be a surprise (assuming he is not performing elsewhere that motzoei Shabbos), but that is the official word.

    2) MBD did give a very good performance in Manchester last year; it is no secret that he is not what he used to be, but this concert should still be great.

    3) The concert is for a very good cause; use your negative energy to “diss” the “Neturei Karta” lowlives who went to Iran (or discuss how the justice system lets Dreck Nelson plague us every other month) instead of criticizing a performer who is a real mensch and a true friend of Chabad and a concert which helps unzerer kinder.

  • att: IScier

Very interesting how you connect Neturei Karta nad Dreck Nelson with MBD. (Don’t worry, I still got the point of your post)

  • IScHier

    to attn IScier

Yes – just as you knew people would understand that the third letter of my surname is an H :), I assumed people would read into my post that which I forgot, which is lehavdil elef havdolos between the lowlives and MBD. And while we’re at it, how many buildings can you burn down with elef havdolos?

  • to Shimon

It so happens that Rabbi JJ hecht OB”M
gave the Rebbe the program of the Parade, so the Rebbe knew that MBD would be singing. But after MBD sang a couple of songs kids were still finding their seats so Rabbi Hecht said something to the point of- while everyone finds their seats Mordchegive us aanother number. And that is when the Rebbe told Rabbi Hecht that he did not come for concerts and that he still has to go to the Ohel. But that was when rabbi hecht wanted to add to the Program because people were still finding their seats.

  • TKTS

I don’t understand all of you with negative comments. The evening is all about positivity. For the past four years The producers haven’t let us down. I am sure MBD will be the true trailblazer that he is and take the house down. B“H, Avremel is on fire himself and IY”H we will get him back.
Bottom line: you will enjoy the concert and help special needs children at the same time. May Hashem help that they should not need our help!

  • misnat

i heard there is somone else singing too!!! im not allowed to say but this guy is amazing if you don’t come your really missing out!!!! i can’t believe they didn’t write his name if they would have wrote it the tickets would’ve been sold out already!!!!!!! i think im gonna have to contact the crownheights.info guy for lettnig someone post a article without the full info!!!!!!!!

  • Concerned Lubavitcher

Whats with all the fried fans? With all due respect to fried, the facts are that MBD is way more professional and sounds alot better than fried.

  • A LOYAL SUPPORTER

WAHT IS EVERYONE’S PROBLEM? WITH ALL THE TZOROS, R’L GOING ON IN THE WORLD IS COMPLAINING ABOUT AVRAHAM FRIED NOT SINGING ALL ANYONE CAN DO????????
GET A LIFE AND ENJOY A WONDERFUL EVENING SUPPORTING A VERY WORTHY CAUSE!!!!
WAY TO GO, TZIRL AND SHMULI!!!!

  • Yankel

Saying people don’t want MBD isnt a knock on Chasdei Zahava or Tziril or Shmuli it’s just a fact. Maybe MBD was better ten years ago, but MBD has got nothing left in the tank. He hasnt been able to sing that good in years. Fried is tops now, and there is no mitzvah in actually GOING to the concert. If I write a check out for 1,000 dollars will my tzedakah count less because I didnt sit in that hall and hear Mordechai try to sing?

We’re allowed to complain about the entertainer, just because an orgnz brings someone in, doesnt mean we arent allowed to kvetch.

  • Chasdei Zahavi

    Yankel,

Thank for your wonderful pledge of $1000. Please send your check to Chasdei Zahavi Foundation, 1574 Carroll Street, Brooklyn, NY 11213.

    Tizku L’Mitzvos.

i think the problem is mbd CAN sing, ive heard him do high notes just as good as he did ten years ago in recent concerts… but he doesnt choose to put in much effort and sings with a very relaxed/calmer/quieter singing style which has never suited him….

when you hear him do a song which requires more effort or volume.. he really shines…

i dont know why he chooses the `more relaxed amater singing style now` it really doesnt suit him
