New Mikvah in Crown Heights!

Yesterday (Monday) evening there was a Kiddush and Chanukas Habayis for a newly renovated Mikvah in Crown Heights. Donated by the Rabkin family in memory of their father R. Meir Rabkin Z”L who’s Yortziet was yesterday the 27th of Kislev.

The Mikvah is scheduled to be opened when the ‘Otzar’ of rain water fills. The new Mikvah is located at 394 Kingston Ave. which is between Montgomery St. and Crown St.

Hats off to the brothers Rabkin for making the Rebbe’s shchunah beutifull. G-D should bless them “ad bli dai”

  • CH Resident

My father was there, and was very impressed witht he technolgoies used, kol hakaovd to the Rabkin family. Thanks for making this community prettier!

  • Have been wondering

    On the subject of mikvahs.
I find it disappointing that we as Lubavitchers work so hard making mikvahs beautiful and available all over the world, but, yet here in our daled amus, in the Rebbes’ Shchuna, we have a mikvah that women aren’t comfortable going to.
I think it’s beautiful what the Rabkin brothers have done and yasher koach, but how long is it going to take until somebody makes it an issue on behalf of the women of Crown Heights??

Nice tile job! This is a great start on making Kingston attractive. Next should be the ice cream shop where most of our Holy youth congregate. I’ll have chocolate chocolate chip in a sugar cone please. Why shouldn’t the Mikva hallway look like the lovely subway tunnels?

  • out-of-towner

Maybe one of you should stop talking about it-like “who’s going to do the women’s mikva ?…” Why don’t one of you just get a group together and do it?If you think so strongly about something, then get it done. Whatever it takes.

  • It is lovely, but this is sad....

why in the world was all that money given for a men’s mikvah??? There is no halacha for men to use the mikvah. The women should have a gorgeous inviting mikvah. Our priorties are so messed up.

  • letz act on it

i agree!!! women should be able to have a luxurious mikvah to go to after alll they are the onez doing alll of the work in the house……we need it more than ever!!!! I am sure there are tonz of people wiling to donate towards this cause.

  • john

what ideas are they coming up with to make the place accessible to a huge amount of people cheap cost and CLEAN!!!! keeping it respectably clean!!

  • my comment

I’m very happy for the CH community and indeed it is a big mitzvoh for the family, but the entrance is mamash on Kingston Av??!!!!!!

  • david

“just the mikvah looks very scary!?!? or like a train station?!?!”

What would a beautiful article be without comments such as these! Let me know when you open your “perfect” mikvah. Lousy ungrateful “tomim”

  • stam a bochur

Wow very nice. Hopefully this will enable many many more bochurim and anash to fulfill the rebbe’s directive of going to mikva every day. A very big yasher koach to the rabkin family and hopefully we can build many more mikvas like these all around the rebbes shchuna.

  • sr41

does anyone know the times this Mikveh will open and close each day?

and does anyone know how much it will cost? per day? monthly? etc.

    looks great!!
    thank you Rabkins!!

P.s. I heard that the Rabkins are in the process of planning a new womens Mikvah to be built on Maple street, although, I don’t know how true this is.

  • Moshe

A big Yasher Koiach to the Rabkin Brothers. They have donated of their time and money to build a beautifull Mikvah. We should all learn from this, and set an example to our children where our priorities shold be- Beautifull Mikvos, Shulls Etc.-If we do this you will find less problems with the youth.

  • anonomoous

I think it is wonderfull that they build this beatiful mikvah for MEN in crown heights. but us women who going to the mikvah is the foundation of our marriage. We have to go to the only womens mikvah in ch that is a dump, and always overcrowded, and many women stopped going because of all of this… i think ch is in desprate need, not of a mens mikvah which there are so many of here already, but of a lady mikvah, and there are so many people who are willng to give to this cause.

  • BrookAve

Maple Street for a Mikva sounds great. Think South everyone! That is the future! Midwood, Fennimore .. keep going!

  • To Anon

I am so sick and tired of people complaining about the women’s mikveh. If you have the money it costs to renovate it and make it luxurious, then cough up the cash! If not, be grateful that we have a women’s mikveh which is by far NOT a dump, it may not be the Ritz, but for $12.00, what do you want?
Think about all those Shluchos who have to dip in the sea each month, or fly to the closest town to go to Mikveh, and then Crown Heights may not seem so bad to you.

  • DAUGHTER OF SARA

i am a woman and used to live in Crown Heights. Now i’m on shlichus. the other woman is right, instead of complaining, form a comittee and get the mikvah done. Just because the Rabkin brothers took action doesn’t mean they have to do the same for you. YOU DO IT

  • crown heightser

The women’s mikvah in CH is $15, which was the new fee as of last summer I think.
Anyone who complains should put their money where their mouth is and do something. Otherwise, be thankful for the things we have.
    Eizehu Ashir Hasameach Bichelko.

  • an insider

There was a committee of women who worked and are still trying to work on getting the womans mikvah redone but people who are willing to pay for anything dont seem to want to donate. These are hardworking devoted women who are doing it l’sheim shamayim but most on the committee cant afford to chip in much. As for the list of all the womens mikvahs around the new york city area, there is an inyan that women like to use the mikvah that the rebbe used. The union street mikvah is the original mikvah. If anyone knows anyone willing to donate to the cause they should contact the womens mikvah committee.

  • fair and balanced

    Solution to womens mikvah problem
#1 Find suitable space(maybe on troy Ave
across from the OK (drizzin property)
#2 Fundraise (all donations go to mikvah)
I think the Shluchim/Shluchos also need to donate towards this cause being they themselves are alumni,
#3 Building needs to be built with some thought. for example numbers of mikvahs and rooms and staff and full security.
    #4 Operation and Management
fund to pay staff and maintain the mikvah. Is $25 per dip to much to ask?
considering what a meal at a restaurant cost.
we need to sit down and get this done for our community!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For goodness sake! Put some pictures on the walls! The place looks stark and sterile! It looks more like a catacomb without a sarcophagus…..

  • Hello

Forget the way the way the crown Heights mikvah looks, some tznius rules are being violated on a nightly basis, and to who ever says its an inyan to use the same mikvah the Rebbe used, where is that written?

  • NEW to CH

If ppl don’t want to pay more money for the mikvah or donate money for a new mikvah to be built, then they can not complain. Everyone is in the same situation. If you have Maaser that is building up and don’t know where to put it; the new mikvah is a good cause.

I am donating $1,000 within the next few weeks towards a new mikvah.

DO THE SAME AND IT’LL GET DONE. Doesn’t have to be $1,000. Every little bit counts.

  • BrookAVe

To Dave: What type of art would you like to view in the 10 minutes average that you are there? I would like to see a screen with stock quotes and perhaps the current mazel tovs. The rest of the gossip I get during my ten minutes, and sometimes I stay longer if it is juicy.

  • Just wanted to say to all of you

I don’t write a lot of comments, but this time will be an different. I just want to say to all of the guys that are building this Mikvah (the brothers rabkin and whoever is involved): it’s awesome. I’m sure you are giving the rebbe a lot of NACHAS.

  • Chaim

I can’t even imagine how a negative comment could be posted regarding such a beautiful mikveh. Those responsible for building this should be blessed in abundance. I just hope it will be treated with respect by those who use it, and hope it will be maintained and not allowed to deteriorate from its exquisite beauty.
