Man shot on the way to shul in hold-up
An Orthodox Jewish man walking to synagogue with his young son Saturday was held up by a man who demanded money and then shot him in the chest, police said.
Eliahu Frishman, 33, of Far Rockaway, was cutting through a schoolyard on Hicksville Road with his 7-year-old son when he was approached by a 20-year-old man wearing a bandanna over his face who tried to rob him, police said.
“I have nothing to give you,” witnesses overheard Frishman say.
With that, the attacker shot Frishman in the chest with what police said was a small-caliber gun.
Frishman told police at the scene that he believed he was shot with a BB gun. But when he underwent surgery at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, doctors said the metal lodged in his chest was actually a small-caliber bullet, police said.
They were unable to remove the bullet, but Frishman was expected to completely recover.
The gunman is described as a 6-foot-2-inch man wearing a red cap, a blue shirt, blue pants and a dark bandanna over his nose.
He made away with no proceeds, as Frishman had nothing to give him.
