Menachem Vorchheimer, 33, said he was walking with his young children in Melbourne on Saturday when men from the Ocean Grove Football Club who had been at the nearby Caulfield Guineas race meeting yelled taunts including “F... off Jews” and “Go the Nazis”.
Two of the players grabbed his hats before he was punched in the face.
Ocean Grove Football Club president Michael Vines said he did not know the circumstances of the attack but apologised and said the club took the allegations seriously.
Club Sorry for Attack on Jewish Man
Melbourne, Australia — An Australian Rules football club has apologised for an alleged assault on a Jewish man by players who removed his traditional headwear then punched him.
Menachem Vorchheimer, 33, said he was walking with his young children in Melbourne on Saturday when men from the Ocean Grove Football Club who had been at the nearby Caulfield Guineas race meeting yelled taunts including “F… off Jews” and “Go the Nazis”.
Two of the players grabbed his hats before he was punched in the face.
Ocean Grove Football Club president Michael Vines said he did not know the circumstances of the attack but apologised and said the club took the allegations seriously.
“If that did in fact occur, on behalf of the club I would apologise to him most sincerely,” he said on Southern Cross Radio today.
Club coach Matthew Sproule said Mr Vorchheimer’s hats were removed “accidentally” in a tussle through the bus window.
“The driver … did not know the person at the back had the hat. We realised the person was chasing us down the street for his hat. We pulled over and we put the hat to the side, then we got run off the road by another person who wouldn’t let us move after his hat was returned,” he said on Southern Cross Radio.
“We don’t know (who threw the punch) with all the commotion that was going on at the time.
”At the time the man in question asked for an apology and we gave an apology to him and he said, `No, it’s 10 seconds too late. I’m calling the police.'”
Uh-Huh...
Yeah right… apology… the coach (or maybe this newspaper) is biased against this bochur… legally figuring out how the case would be ("if it did happen"…) Yimach shemom!
MIAMI
WHAT THE HELL TRYING TO MAKE EXCUSES FOR THERE STUPID MISTAKE
A Melbourne Chabadnik
The truth is that Menachem approached a bus full of drunk football players. Although they had no right to attack him he should have used better judgement. Especially so as his children were present and his first thoughts should have been about protecting them not finding out the name of the football club.
We are supposed to be smarter than the goyim although we do not behave that way sometimes…
Selly
To the Melbourne "holier than thou" Chabbadnik,
His first thought should have been to stand proud as a jew and teach his children that just because you are a jew you do not cower from attacks by Nazis but u stand proud and chase them down to bring them to justice and to show them that Jews are not easy pickings! What a kiddush Hashem that young man did!! I am sure that this lesson will stay in his kids memories and also that they are very proud of their father.
Next time, think before you critisize another jew, especially from your own community who most probably knows you if you would identify yourself.
TG there are still some Chabbadniks who are not scared to stand up to the goyim and nazis of our times.
Moshiach now.
lazy bocher
im with selly on this one! if only we would have more people like him who are not scared to do the right thing!
The Oracle
Dear Selly,
There are ways and means of doing everything. Combating anti-semitism does not necessarily mean putting youself in unecessary danger. Taking the number plate of the car can ID the owners to police and CSG for instance is an alternative.
Having said that, it is an inspiring story, but only because Menachem wasn’t badly hurt and the guys were caught. This situation could have gone south in a hurry.

It is interesting that "Selly" is willing to put children at risk. Other news reports mentioned how terrified the kids were and that they had to have councelling for the trauma.
As I said in my last comment we are supposed to be intelligent people. Obviously, Selly, some are more intelligent than others.

To the Oracle,
I was going to say that you are right and I see ur point but then I realized that it was on Shabbos so he didn’t have many options.
Nevertheless, from your answer I see that your self assumed title has a basis in reality, so I tip my hat to you!
Oh, I am actually looking for a mashpia (u no, the asei lecho rav thing). Are you available?
Sane
Selly must be a teenager or just stupid.
Who in their right mind would approach 20 drunk goyim with their 3 and 6 year old children? BH he did not sustain more serious injuries.
