First Night of Simchas Bais Hashuaiva

Hundreds packed the block of Kingston between Crown and Montgomery, on the stage the Piamenta brothers rocked the night along with Yaakov Young and Avremi G. and had everyone dancing up into daybreak at 6:00am when police had to open up the street. Great weather contributed to the massive turnout.

Hey Shubi, I understand you’re upset you didn’t get to drum, but at least dance instead of just standing there!

Wow looks amazing! Wish I could’ve been there! Beautiful pics as usual.

Simchas Beis Hashoeva was very enjoyable last night.

However, there was one thing which was very unfortunate about the event: there was no Sukkah.

I need not remind anyone how important we Lubavitchers hold of eating every bit of food, and even just a sip of a drink, inside of a Sukkah. But, to my dismay, and the dismay of many others, there was no Sukkah for anyone to have a bite to eat or a cold drink after intense dancing. There were only a few private Sukkahs in the area which ended up being invaded for lack of a better place. I saw many people who were wrecklessly eating from the many food vendors without even thinking of the need to eat inside of a Sukkah and I can’t blame them, there was none.

The organizers of the event should ensure that for the rest of the nights of Sukkos that there be a Sukkah available for eating in. Additionally, there must be Sukkahs on both sides of the dancing because it is near impossible and inconvenient to walk accross the dancing {with your food} to reach a Sukkah.

The event was glorious, but did it really have to go till 6AM in the morning?! Some of us are not bochurim who can sleep in the next day. Some of us have to WAKE UP at 6AM so I ask you: is it really fair that I didn’t get any sleep last night, and had to walk aroundn like a zombie all day hampering my ability to support my family just becaue I chose to live in a central location in Crown Heights and am not he deepest sleeper in the world?

Thoughtful responses to this are welcome.

  • from across the Atlantic Ocean !!

PLEASE PUT LOADS MORE PHOTOS ON….
CLOSE UP OF THE CROUDS… only way to check out the people, from the other end of the world !!!
Thanks for your great word, so far!!

The outdoor sukkahs ended when the last Vaad failed to clean them up in the morning and the neighbors got fed up.

    re Tired:
it goes to 6 am because that was the directive of the rebbe, and its been going as such ever since. when u took the house, there is no way that you didnt know about simchas beis hashueva, unless you bought it before it was started. in that case you should know why it goes till 6.

  • Chag Sameach

Sorry, Sammy! The last Vaad went to great lengths to clean up their Succah! The pesent Vaad is too thoughtless and lazy to address details like this until someone rubs their noses in it.
Thanks for pointing it out Nemo!

  • Chassidishe Lady

These are great pictures, thanks for posting. However…was this a mens-only event? I live far away and I want to be able to see my female friends and relatives.

    To Tired:

I live Crown & Albany, and I could hear the noise…I was woken a few times by the yelling & loud music. I feel bad for anyone who lives closer than me! Tonight I’m bringing my sleeping pills out of retirement…I gotta work tomorrow.

Some respect is called for…either tone it down, or end it no later than 2.

That may also stop the nasty activities in the alleys.

  • wishing

whoever was there is sooooo lucky!!! i wish i was there myself but im stuck on the other side of america. out doin shlichus. which in a way sucks cuz i cant go out to ch for sukkos. guys dance for me.

  • ch

to tired: what do you mean? the bochurim all get up early in time for shema, then they learn some chassidus, then they davven,i mean , they have a very busy day. naaaa, they dont sleep in.

  • re tired

i really feel for you but please remember the words of the rebbe "di gasen alein darf tantzen" the rebbe wanted the all nighter so i dont think you or i can question it…

  • Mendel on Montgomery

What kind of parent let’s their children set of firecrackers at 4:15 am? Simchas Beis Hashoevah can only continue if neighbors work to keep it safe. Genuch shoin!

    Dory:

Take a close look at that picture and tell me if that looks like enouh space for thousands of people. Besides, that is a private Sukkah, it is owned by the food stand next to it.

There needs to be a large Sukkah with room for everyone.

  • resident in new haven

there seems to be much less people then in previeous years…. where are the cochurim in boro park, or people stoped coming?

    To Tired:

I live by Rogers Avenue and I didnt hear much. You can manage a few days a little tired. I know you can do it. Be happy to be breathing and walking. Drink lots of coffee during the day and get with the Simcha! What you heard was a whisper compared with 13th Avenue. The good news there was no mingling on Kingston…the dark alleys, well, that’s a different story.

  • hagam ki mi yavo achar hamelech...

Several posters have commented on the fact that Simchas Beis HaShoevah goes on until 6:00 because the Rebbe directed that it should be so.

Very well, then; "ours not to question why, ours but to do and [live]." But how about this: after some cutoff time (12, 1, 2, or whatever, kefi re’os einei ha’eidah), either SBHS should continue with singing only and no music – "di gassen alein" can, and should be able to, dance just as much that way, just as they do at SBHS on Shabbos and Yom Tov – or at least the volume should be reduced, which surely can be done without affecting the simchah in any way.

  • Far Away, but not so far away

    1) There was a sukkah last year which was during the term of our present Vaad. It really is a necessity, and there has been one going back as far as I can remember which is Tismach.

    2) Thanks to Mendy Raitport of Crown Kosher for the food stand and the small sukkah.

    3) Did Yeedle Werdyger show up last night? I was dancing only until 11.00 but I was very close by until 1.30 and I am not sure if the voice I heard was his or not.
