73 Year Old Woman BEATEN and MUGGED

This morning at around 11:00am an elderly woman was walking on Carroll St. between Albany and Troy when she was accosted by one Black man, who kicked and knocked her over after which a second Black man came running from across the street, and according to eye witnesses he struck the woman then the two took the woman purse and fled up Albany Ave. towards Eastern Pkwy.

Shomrim and Hatzalah were called and responded, a canvass by Shomrim didn’t yield any positive results. Hatzalah treated the woman for a wound she sustained to her head which was bleeding, then transported her to a local physician. Police responded in large numbers as well.

According to bystanders who heard two female police officers say “this is just a 30” (30 being the code for a mugging with no assault) as they were walking away from checking out the victim.

Crime in Crown Heights is up, there is no question about that. Many people say that now that these crimes are seeing the light of press it sounds worse then it really is, not anymore, these muggers are getting more vicious and brazen and with the gross lack of police protection matters will only get worse. Thank g-d we didn’t see a repeat of what had taken place last night where a woman was mugged, by probably the very same two criminals, where police took over 30 minutes to respond!

To the residents, be more alert and vigilant, if you see something call Shomrim immediately (718 774-3333), call 911 too. Keep on the lookout for others as well. To the Police we plead! Get your priorities straight! DO SOMETHING!

From My experience reading peoples feed back to many articles on this site, I think it’s safe to assume that people will start to put blame on why the situation is the way it is.
On that I can only say. It is not our fault in any way.
When I say “OUR” I mean the day to day people that have job’s, who are fathers and mothers (and I don’t have to say Yeshiva Bochorim- for they are surly is Yeshiva learning). We don’t need to get involved, we are busy (some of use can loose our jobs if we get involved in politics…
For that reason we have Elected Community leaders, there supposed to be representing use, they are supposed to be defending use and that I must say is a lost case.
Unfortunately, we have no leaders, no Representation and no Defense. We are doing our part by going out to vote for these people, we expect them to do “our” job for use.
If you noticed, By Klein Livaya, the police put up gates along Eastern Parkway, Those gates were there, because they know that people were mad and frustrated about how crime/Justice was being handled in “our” Community. They were expecting a riot. (Note: people get shot and killed every day, some don’t even make it to 1010 wins, that day almost every media outlet was seen in Crown height, they did not come to just see a Jewish Livaya, they were also expecting more).
Is that what they got? Did any of our leaders/representatives get up and make some noise [Please note: when I say riot or noise I don’t mean in a violent way]. Instead we got a circus full of clowns smiling for the camera and talking about gun control. They had” our” chance and they blew it.
You might ask, your so smart, why is it that you did not do anything? How could we do anything, when not only will the so called “leaders” won’t help use, they will go against. On that day we were ask not to say or do anything, for “we will handle it”. That they did. And that is why we are being treated this way.
    What a waist.
Until we start making a lot of noise this will not stop.

  • Too Late

I must confess my sin…. I was crossing albany ave this morning when 2 blacks ran past me. I didn’t know it till a 1/2 block later when I came upon the woman who told me she was just mugged, I turned and ran in the direction of the hoodlums but they were long gone. I learned my lesson…. a running shvartze is a guilty shvartze…. If you see one running, trip him first, ask questions later!

  • Neshama

Seems there is an epidemic because they know the PD won’t do anything because they don’t want a whiplash riot on their hands. The PD is betting that "the Jews" will take care of the problem by themselves.

OR They are letting this happen because they are angry with and jealous of our SHOMRIM. This may be their vengence.

Maybe someone (or all CH’ers) needs to bring this in the face of the Mayor. It may be crime being used passively against a certain community. Isn’t the Chief of P an employee of the City? Go to him first, and then to his boss – with people, a petition, some cameras, etc.

  • me in israel

i sit here in israel reading these reports and i look at it the same way i percive the violence of the arabs Yemach Shemam, always people talking, but nobody doing any thing!!! forget the police, they are not on our side! its time that you(i am in israel) take to the streets and acctually say something, do something! not just stand arround and watch while your nieghberhood goes to @#$%. this is your choice your lives! gaurd your SHCHUNA!!!!

  • Itzik_s

BEHEMAS! What is causing this? Is it the incompetence and bias of the 71st that allows violent criminals to operate brazenly and without fear of being caught? Is crack or some other drug coming back to the streets?

At this juncture it is once again appropriate and propitious to recall the occasion when a fire broke out in 770 and the Rebbe’s attribution of cause was to the shameful delays in renovating the Union Street mikveh. And we should also remember the horrible murder of Mrs. Lapine and the harsh words the of the Rebbe that followed who cited the stupid selfishness of people who should have worked together instead of indulging in back biting other such human foibles. With memory there should evolve within us a response to correct the mistakes and rectify the circumstances that allowed such things to occur. Namely, when people (all people but especially those in positions of authority) fail to live up to their oblligations or worse, r"l, it creates pirude and with pirude the kelim for the Aibershter’s brochos and sh’mira are diminished. That said, this is not specifically a call to protest the lack of responsible leadership. On the contrary the call is to become a leader within one’s own dalet amos. As the Rebbe called out to us on that indelibly portentious chof chess Nissan. "now it is up to you." The Rebbe did not refer to leaders or mosdos. He was pointedly speaking to each and every individual and prayerfully held out the hope that good people would join together and cooperate in accomplishing that which is in our power to accomplish. It is easy and perhaps legitimate to ask, of what significance is my puny effort. However, when on considers the cumulative affect of concerted effort then we understand the key to solving the problem. By way of illustration; When a marching army begins to cross a bridge they cease marching in step and begin to walk in break-step; everyone out of sync. The reason is simple physics. Although the affect of one person marching across a bridge is negligible to point of insignificance, the reverberations caused by thousands of soldiers marching in unison are powerful enough to literally cause a bridge to fall apart and collapse. That same number marching out of step poses no threat whatsover. The musar haskel is obvious; As Rashi points out regarding the m’raglim who returned bearing samples of the awesome produce of eretz Canaan; two can carry exponentially greater weight than two carrying separately…

  • police don-t do any thing these days

it’s not like the old were cops were cops not just any man off the street. days these days the cops are losers and they are scared of getting hurt they don’t know how to fight crime at all. and what do they care at the end of the day they go home in a place were they don’t have crime like Staten island. if you think of it why should they care they come here take our money by giving tickets they don’t care about ewer neighborhood we have to understand that but don’t get me wrong if a cop is nice to you you can act nice back he is still human.

we the people ho live in crown heights have to understand already that by siting and complaining to the police every time something goes wrong it is not going to help any more crime is up like never before b.h. we have in awe-re community a private security force called the Shomrim if people in crown heights can just give a little donation each i am sore it will help them help you if anything chas vsahlom ever happens to you or anybody.

and i would like to take this opportunity to thank the crown heights SHOMRIM for their help and for being
here when we need them most

  • from c.h.

this is crazy the shomrim are always there what are the police doing ?????????????????????????????????????????

  • cher

to naki what will Hanina do maybe we shod put up signs so people can donate to the crown heights Shomrim

  • I wish I didnt live here

Unfortunately I think its going to take an attack on someone related to these ‘higher ups’ Ch’V in CH for something to get done!
Until it happens to their own, they dont care. I honestly want to know, what can I do? Is there a line I can call, an address I can send protest letters to? I think if each of us posters write one, it will do a bit of good.
Soon CH will be crawling with Tishrei guests, what will happen then?

  • Ish

For all those condemning everyone else for not doing ‘anything’, why don’t you please do us a favor and read your own posts. You comment to others about doing ‘something’. How about you, big mouth, be the ish who acts ‘bimakom sheain ish’.

In that vein, I would suggest that Anash should organize a peaceful, yet vociferous demonstration outside the 71st PCT. with that we can blatantly get our word out there. This matter I am commenting on this well commended website, with the hope that the more powerful individuals of the community, (eg, our leaders, patrolers etc) can organize in a manner that would be ‘unpolitical’ and hopefully unite the entire community to come out for this vital cause.

    CHAZAK V’Ematz!

  • waiting to move to Florida

So, Ish….when is this demonstration? Put yourself on the line…YOU organize it!!

Print posters. Post notices on CH.info. Make chain calls. Alert the media. Get a permit. Join SHOMRIM.

    RUN FOR COMMUNITY COUNCIL!

We all know our community leaders (Jew & non-Jew) don’t give a damn.

    So YOU DO IT!!

You’re no better than the rest of us.

  • terrified of being attacked

    Webby,

how about SHOMRIM taking charge & organizing some kind of media-based event…a demonstration/rallyor public meeting?

    They have the statistics.

    Do they have the GUTS??

  • bored on empire

Tishrei is a great opportunity to organize a rally
    1) We need extra protection during the late hours people are on the streets

    2) we have an additional 2000 people who come in for the month, to add to the rally, and they will come, since they are not herre working

lets just find someone to organize it, what about the organizers of the Yud Aleph Farbrengen a few years agop on Eastern Parkway?

  • MOISH

    chevra tishrei is upon us
there are alot more bochurim in the streets we need to be on the look out for these shvartzes
when we catch one beat them
tell all the guests about this and to be on the look out

scream when something happens so we can all run and help

    this is the only way

LETS GO BACK TO THE 80’S AND 90’S BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THEM AND WILL NEVER RETURN

  • meir rhodes

as a former teacher i can tell you that the black teens in the hood are more violent, angry and anti-white than they were 10 yrs ago. jews are preceived as being weak and cowardly.if the community reacts to this round of violence ,as they should ,the reaction from the anti-jewish elements in the black community will surely follow.also to the fellow who send elliot spitzer’s e-mail, certainly, follow up
now is the time to defend crown heights.perhaps this will bring a long needed unity to the community.

  • Cyan

Okay I’m from CH and I lived here all my life, suddenly I go away for a few months and come back to this "dangerous town" everyone is talking about. What happened? What happened to CH?

Like I, the big mouth wrote above (qoute)

"You might ask, your so smart, why is it that you did not do anything?
How could we do anything, when not only will the so called “leaders” not help use, they will go against any thing we try to do."

If I or anybody else will try to do anything, we will have our so called "leaders" bang on the Bimah, Condemning any action we might want to take.

Then we will have another so called “maclokes” in Crown Heights.

What I wrote above still stands, until we get proper “leaders” nothing will help.

Truth be said, there are leaders out there (that are not official) but they can’t do anything because of the opposition they will get if they try.

Unfortunately, this opposition will come from the very people we elected to present and defend use.

  • So Sad.

G-d should watch over us. I am a boy ready to help. Where’s the protest? I’ll bring my friends.

  • elmo

Carry pepperspray and an alarm button…a knife or pen would be helpful too… protect yourself on the streets people!!!!!!!! and a good scream is recommended as well..

  • thanks webby

hey hey hey wait why are you all saying what to do give webby and the shomrim a thanks and a donation and then you say what you want to say.

PS thanks webby for all your hard work and to all he shomrim members who always show up and make an effort

  • Molly

these cops need major help, i saw one lady cop the other day who shoould have been a cleaning lady, seriously they take anyone off the street for this reallly important job…..without shomrim i dont know what we’d do.
A big thanks to shomrim for always bein there.

  • its crazy

i think whats going on is crazy and to much crimes are happening police dont care and something should be done now

  • golem

Let’s turn the tables on our black neighbores. Get roving groups of bochurim to roam the streets severly beating any black person they see. Something similar worked in the time of Rabbi Yehuda Leowy in the 15th century in Prague

  • meir

i nstead of waiting for the police do what communities all over the world do. beat the hell out of these perps. and leave them in the street. the word will get out quickly, ‘don’t mess with the jews’. this is the ONLY way to deal with this plague.

  • Eliezer

For all those who are actually thinking of arming themselves. Pepperspray may be a good idea, but knives are not. carrying one, and not having learned to fight, is more likely that you’ll end up hurt from your own weapon, then hurting the perp.

  • concerned CH mother

either a demonstration is in order, or someone please post the time and place of the upcoming meeting for 71st precint. The turnout is usually poor, with nobody speaking up, but all of us should take our anger there and make it heard
Also, if shomrim could post some info on what the average, non-macho guy can do – I mean the average over 30-40 yr old men here that care but are not real gung-ho to chase down a perp – they aren’t fit for that but maybe would do an hour a month of patrol… I would help print up a flyer or make phone calls to help organize

  • MAKE NOISE

    WE N
EED TO MAKE ALOT OF NOISE IN AS MUCH OF THE MEDIA AS WE CAN. IF WE CAN ORGANIZE A PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION AT THE PRECINT THE MEDIA SHOULD BE INFORMED OF IT SO THAT IT CAN B E PUBLICIZED.
